I have a friend who just did a presentation in Florida for Abound points. 30,000 points for 12K. I'm very familiar with timeshare weeks, but not with the points. Is this a good deal or not? Is there a way to see what you can get with 30,000 points? Appreciate any advice as he is still within his rescicion period

The generic answer is that it's not a good deal, but the numbers do not make sense.

A "typical" abound points package is 3000 points and maybe 1000-1500 for a smaller package to buy enough points that are not enough to do much with (they won't necessarily tell you that) so you buy again later. The cost for 3000 points would be close to $50K. And most people on these boards are likely to tell you that it's not a good deal.

Where did she get the presentation? Was it maybe a Sheraton Flex package?

That can’t be 30,000 Abound Points, as the list price for those would be ~$500k

I just checked in with my friend and it's 30000 staroptions. Does this make sense

It sounds like Sheraton Flex. You probably want to ask about this in the Vistana forum.

Quick answer though, that number of points has very little utility.

And if it is Sheraton Flex IMHO your friend should immediately rescind

Here is the StarOption chart so you can see how you can use 30,000 points.

Sheraton Flex HomeOptions convert to Abound Club points at 34.24 to 1. That means your friend would only get about 875 Club Points. You can look at the Marriott Club Points chart here.

This is something that should be rescinded immediately. Your friend could buy a resale Westin Kierland Villas week that comes with 148,100 StarOptions for the same price. The drawback is the maintenance fee is higher and it can't be converted to Abound Club Points out of the box. Though they could later spend $10,000 with Vistana to make it eligible to convert to Club Points.

Even if it was a good deal they should cancel and educate themselves before committing to a long term timeshare ownership.

Thank you all very much for your advice. I will pass it along.

And of course, sales is once again confusing people by telling them they can purchase StarOptions. You can't buy StarOptions.
