So I paid for what was supposed to be a 5 day getaway at a Marriott resort in Orlando. I booked through II.

I got the confirmation and everything was in order.

a few days later I get an email from Marriott and now the dates had changed to a 7 days getaway. The checkin date is earlier but the checkout is as expected.

The reservation is now linked to my Bonvoy app and here the dates also says 7 days.

This is my first stay at a Marriott resort, but not my first getaway through II.

Is this something that usually happens with Marriott and II?

Yes, this was our experience too with ShortStay getaways and ShortStay Exchanges. The confirmation will show the full 7 days as these are backed by full week deposits. II transmits information to the resort as to the number of nights you are entitled to and II technically still owns the other nights--the first two in your case. I don't know or think II really tries to rent or exchange out the remaining nights. I don't think their nor Marriott's system is setup to handle splitting one deposit between two different guests. Like who pays the additional housekeeping and two guests with the same confirmation number? II is just trying to monetize what is excess inventory. So if they can get money for one night, they'll take it rather than letting the deposit result in breakage.

In any case, you will probably get seven Elite Night Credits but don't try to check in early. The day you check in starts your clock on the number of nights you booked with the ShortStay.

Did you add your Bonvoy number to the reservation through the Marriott.com or the Bonvoy app? Or did it just show up in your Trips on Marriott.com automagically?

Thanks - I did the pre-checkin and gave my number there.

What is Elite night credits?

Wouldn't I risk my reservation is I dont checkin on the night the wrote in the Marriott confirmation letter?

You will be fine arriving and checkin in on the day your II confirmation shows. If you check in on the day of the Marriott confirmation shows, they could check you out two days early. You are entitled to five nights. The resort should be aware you are on a ShortStay booking and know how many nights you have. You could call the resort ahead of time to confirm.

Elite Night Credits is what you earn toward annual Gold, Platinum, Titanium Bonvoy Elite status.
