Marriott’s New $100M Cost-Cutting Strategy: Changes Coming To Your 2025 Stay

Regardless of whether or not it's loyalty status that leads you to certain chains, it's a good idea to check the reviews, especially for a "destination" stay.
We had dinner with friends last night who booked a Red Roof Inn for a 3-night stay, because on a trip to that locale (somewhere in PA?) @ a decade ago, that's where they stayed and had happy memories. It was decidedly different now vs. then- so much so that they didn't even stay the first night and moved to a Comfort Inn nearby.
I have read reviews on a Residence Inn near Cincinnati that are very mixed but, nevertheless are staying there one night because we need a 2 bed/2 bath suite to prep for Thanksgiving prior to a family stay at a Kentucky State Resort Park. A similar room option is available at a Homewood Suites, a Hilton affiliate where we have many more points than with Bonvoy but can't justify the nearly $100 more for the night.

IMO, before you book any hotel now you need to read the most recent reviews about the hotel and the area surrounding the hotel.

Hotels and the area around the hotel have change since the pandemic.

It always good to check reviews to see something else might be a better option.

I learned this years ago the hard way when I booked a hotel stay in Atlantic City for a concert. The overall rating was high (at least 4 stars) but I was remiss in reading the most recent reviews. The room was in bad shape and very smoky (was supposed to be a smoke free room). Never skipping latest reviews again!
