Marriot Ocean Point and Oceana in Bad neighborhoods

There's a CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid drug store on Blue Heron Boulevard in Riviera Beach that has a sign over a parking space in front of the store that says "This space reserved for Riviera Beach Police Department."

That may give you some sense of the landscape in that portion of Riviera Beach. Green Acres it's not.

Puhleeesee just stop the insanity!

Take it from me, a life long inner city NYC resident!

There is no such thing as a bad neighborhood near Singer Island.

Does anyone remember NYC in 1970's. Graffiti all over the Subways, 42nd Street was filled with peep show movie houses, really really seedy. Garbage, crime, murder rate was sky high! Yeah I grew up in that decade and survived. I got knocked off my 10 speed and it was stolen in broad daylight in Queens. I survived all of this.

I have worked and visited some really lousy neighborhoods such as the South Bronx, South Jamaica Queens, City Projects, University Heights in the Bronx. I take public transit every day now to Rockefeller Center NYC.

I would walk down Blue Heron Blvd at 3:00am any day of the week!

For an objective look at crime in the area, go to:

www.crimemapping.com

Enter: Blue Heron Blvd W, Riviera Beach, FL, 33404

Enter: TWO mile radius

and put in the dates of your choice.

Of interest, there is little to no reported crime on Singer Island itself during much of 2013. The area north and south of Blue Heron Boulevard (particularly to the north), from the bridge that leads to Singer Island, to the west, two miles, is another story.

I think that specific neighborhood is quite nice actually. I view it much nicer than average. The houses are older but very nice and some being completely rebuilt. Most of these houses are around $300k-$550k and mostly owned by perma resident former snow birds. It is a very nice walk. Some of these homeowners own at Ocean Pointe for the day use privilege.

Their property taxes are through the roof also. At least by comparison to the mid west.

This is very common everywhere in South Florida. Not necessarily an indicator that the area is bad we just love our police and give them preferred parking. ;)

Interesting site. I don't think it's very accurate as the only crime reported in the past 12 months in Palm Beach Shores was 1 DUI. Surely somebody must have stolen something from somebody during that timeframe.

A more accurate site is the FBIs crime rate stats for cities over 100,000 in population.

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/uc...al-uniform-crime-report-january-december-2012

According to the fibbies West Palm Beach is relatively safe at a .8% violent crime rate. The place you want to avoid is Orlando. They are a whopping 1.0%. I don't think I'll ever feel safe with Mickey again. To think I brought my grandkids to Lakeshore Reserve and just let them wander around the resort by themselves. Next time we visit I'll make sure they are all armed.

We love the area and just use common sense. I enjoy the comments about poorer people living across the bridge. It is the same at HHI. I live across the bridge and don't have money that many on the other side have. :)

My DW's friend from college was Pharmacy Manager of that Walgreens store. There has been numerous issues there so I wouldn't be too overconfident when stopping in that area. Concern is mostly at night.

They have issues at Walgreens in hundreds of locations in America. There is risk with even walking outside your front door. The points is that this area really isn't any worse than thousands of other cities across the country.

Exactly correct.

Fair enough: here is the Crime Data I got from the public crime database

Overall Rivieria Beach (RB) is 2 out 100 [100 is safest], Rivieria Beach is safer than 2% of other places in the US.

Annually there are 524 violent crimes in RB
Annually there are 1,924 property crimes in RB

Looking at violent crime, the national average is 3.9 per 1000, in RB it's 15.9 per 1000.

In Florida your chances of becoming a crime victim is 1 in 194, in RB is 1 in 63

Out of the 524 RB annual violent crimes: 7 murders, 16 rapes, 100 robberies, 401 assaults

Sounds like sparty won't be going to Ocean Pointe or Oceana Palms anytime soon. More availability for the rest of us.

Another interesting site. Here it is for those who want to take a look.

http://www.neighborhoodscout.com

The problem is they rate Riviera Beach just as bad as Orlando. Why don't we have any threads about how bad Orlando is? Maybe we should pay less attention to stats, after all 50% of the responders to this thread are below average intelligence.

Not the case. I love Ocean Pointe and Oceana Palms. Just recommending to be aware of the surrounding area. Also note - when I've been to Ocean Pointe and Oceana Palms there has been very visible Marriott security there which is very good.

Some more stats: Party is 83% of Sparty!

If some are average, wouldn't that make those above and those below slightly less than 50%? I'm pretty sure that's how they teach math in the poor neighborhoods. ;)

Love it. By the way, is Sparty a reference to you being a MSU grad? I think I saw that on a banner hanging from a dorm room there.

;)
Indeed. Half should be each above and below the median though.

Statistically speaking, that's a statement I can get 100% behind. ;)

teen room

Just a side not on the teen room. The new tower at Ocena has a teen room with video games, TV screens etc and it is a pretty nice space.

If you are 100% behind then you cannot be part of the 50% above or below. Way to jump out of the equation and screw the whole thing up.

Are you calling me an Outlier?
