You have talked to a sales guy at mountainside?
If you buy a resale, you can save more than thousands of dollars, especially if you know which week you want to buy.
Less purchase price, less maintenance fee.
Mountainside ski week has good price these days.
Search resale market.

Don't buy direct...points are way too expensive for what you get and have a resale value of zero. Study TUG posts on this Marriott board and get totally confused. Go to eBay and keep searching for resale Mountainside weeks .. You might pick one up for $1000 there. But before you do anything research and ask questions here. Welcome!

You could try redweek.com.

They have a selection of Mountainside weeks for sale.

The cheapest units I have seen tend to be on eBay. Keep your eyes on the resale market and be patient.

In terms of helping a newbie out, you have already done yourself the biggest favor by checking out TUG before you purchase from the developer. I wish I had done that...

Just so the OP doesn't get unrealistic expectations- ski weeks are still in the teens even resale. The 1k would be for an off season week. Others can chime in on the lower end of resale ski weeks.

To put that into perspective, a March week at Mountainside requires 6900 DC points, roughly $75K up front and almost $2800 a year in maintenance fees, as opposed to the $1000 or so for purchasing the week.

You do not mention which week you want. If it is President's week for example it is you and everyone else. These are of course Platinum weeks. A gold summer week (one step down) can trade back into a winter week - perhaps at the Marriott Summit Watch. It is a good way to "get your feet wet" while you learn the system and learn how to lock off, trade, and surf the II site for weeks. You can buy a gold Summit Watch on Redweek for example for a few thousand dollars. If you take this in steps and buy something less expensive to learn on and then feel you really want the more expensive week you will be far happier. In any event, do not talk to any other Marriott salespersons. Another idea, or do a search for rescind on the TUG bulletin board to see how many people have major second thoughts about purchasing retail. Funtime

In general on eBay, Platinum ski weeks at Mounainside are a over $10K while those at Summitwatch down the street are now just under $10K.

Can you imagine being a newbie and buying $75,000 worth of points , then 2 weeks later finding you could have bought a prime week on eBay for less than $10k? Ouch.

On the other hand, I guess we all did this before Marriott turned their back on their customers. :(
