Richard so odd that this is being said. I read an actual test study done in China and France with sample studies and this drug combined with Zpac (Azithromycin or Zithromax) made a huge difference. They interviewed a gentleman on the news 2 nights ago who was in critical condition and given the meds and made an amazing turn around in one day. The study showed that most patients given the combination were virus free after 6 days. Here you can read up on it if so inclined.:

Please take the time to read the article and not the headline. Doesn't the article say that based on this sample both methods of anti-viral treatment (i.e. hydroxychoroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir) proved effective. Isn't that good news.

I have a supply of this stuff, bought several weeks ago. If a loved one becomes gravely ill and there is no more hydrochloroquine or pharmaceutical grade chloroquine left available to their physicians, you can bet that I'll tell the doctor what I have available. The risks are many, but part of a doctor's job is to weigh potential risks vs benefits. I personally feel better having the drug and not using it than not having it and lamenting. I cannot fathom what made this man take such a dangerous drug as a preventative measure - I also wonder if his version was even pure chloroquine. Uncertainty and fear have devastating effects on our ability to make sound decisions =(

Florida county commissioner says during meeting that blow dryer up nose kills coronavirus
“This sounds really goofy - and it did to me too — but it works,” Okeechobee County Commissioner Bryant Culpepper said at the meeting Friday.
“The answer was, you use a blow dryer,” he said, according to the New York Post. “You hold a blow dryer .......

If you want to get a Darwin award while “killing the virus by using a hair dryer” - stand in a bathtub full of water

I really think we should start a best of page for irresponsible reporting.

I have no issue with doctors using their expertise to treat their patients with whatever drug is suitable. But I find it terrible when the president suggests a treatment that then causes people to hoard the drug. (Unless I have misread something, see post 31 above as an example). So now we can add another item to a hoarders shopping list?

I previously took Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) for my rheumatoid arthritis. I didn't work for me, but with the hoarding/shortages that I am hearing about now I feel sorry for others who are on that drug and may not be able to get the medicine that keeps their autoimmune disease under control. For anyone wondering what the big deal is, here is what I am unable to do when my disease is left untreated: roll over in bed, get dressed in the morning, hold a cup of coffee, drive a car, in other words, move any part of my body without excruciating pain. Treatment for autoimmune disease is complicated and sometimes it takes months to find an effective treatment. In the mean time, you are unable to move without pain. Additionally it takes weeks for some treatments to show results so taking someone off of a successful treatment can make their lives miserable for months.

Folks hoarding this medication cause a shortage that helps very few at the expense of many - both critical patients in an ICU suffering from Covid-19 and sufferers of autoimmune diseases who need to take the drug daily.

I bought it in early February, well before Trump said a single thing about the medication - in fact I bought it well before he said anything of substance about the virus at all. I bought it when the first studies referencing it were released. I bought chloroquine (not the medication you took) through veterinary suppliers - I did not steal it from a pharmacy, nor did I take a damn thing from folks like yourself. You have no reason to be angry at me. I feel like you didn't even read what I wrote, you were just looking for someone to lump into your blame game.

I am not angry just very concerned. I have read that there are shortages now. And I put the blame on the president for hyping it. My apologies if you took it any other way.

I wish you well. Rheumatoid arthritis can be debilitating if not treated correctly.

Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine, for use by humans, is only available by prescription, when available. Maintaining a supply of any amount or hoarding would be difficult at best. However, Chloroquine Phosphate, available from veterinary suppliers is intended for fish, not humans.

This seems to be a drug of hope. We need hope right now.

Actually, I am very sorry for my reaction. For a moment all I could think was that someone in the world believed I was taking my medical cues from a politician, my lizard brain just couldn't allow that to stand - and I responded quite rudely. Again, my apologies.

Re: the drug I purchased, I do trust my supplier, as well as the manufacturer. Incidentally, I have a number of (high quality) veterinary medications on hand that I have used for both animals and humans. One of them, ivermectin, also appears to show a few glimmers of hope against this virus. I am not in any way angling to use any of them, but I do somehow feel better having a particularly well equipped toolbox in a worst case scenario.

My issue is we know the black market, N95 masks anyone, will gobble up supplies to offer as a preventive when it’s too early to know it’s broad effectiveness.

No worries. Everyone is scared and trying their best to cope with the stress. At least I am :) I can't wait for things to get back to normal.
