I've bee telling friends for months that I doubt the big cruise lines will be able to sail in any meaningful way until 2021 at the earliest. I'm currently waiting for Royal to cancel my Sept 20 cruise so I can claim a cash refund (they are delaying as long as possible before canceling, in part to improve their cash flow). Then I'll have to do the same waiting game for my November transatlantic which I doubt will happen.
Hold your breath , Royal need your money and they are going to give you a deal with some good perks, to hold on to your cruise booking & dollars. IMHO.

They’re only offering 125% of original payment in the form of a future cruise certificate. I already have a lot in one, and won’t give them another dime.

My dd's best friend got married in December. She and her husband were supposed to go on a cruise in April. That got cancelled. I'm pretty sure she got credit at that point and back then they were thinking they would/could book another cruise for later this year. I don't think that's going to happen and I wonder if she'll just be sitting with that credit until things look better. As a wedding gift I had booked them a night at the Hilton on Waikiki for the night after their cruise ended. I was able to get a full refund on the prepaid night.

I would prefer stock over a cruise credit at only 125%.

Cruises to nowhere may become a bigger thing. Just for locals close to the departure port.

I have done a couple of these out of Boston on NCL. They were just 2 nights. If you took a per night cost compared to longer cruises they were fairly expensive. They both turned out to be adult party cruises more than a relaxing getaway.

I am not sure what it would take for me to feel comfortable being on a cruise ship of any size. I don't see that happening soon that's for sure.

I know what it will take for my husband and me to both cruise or even just to fly anywhere: An effective vaccine that has been administered to 70% of the US population. That will get us herd immunity and along with the other people who have gotten the virus and survived, will counteract those anti vaxers out there who refuse to get immunized.
