All the Cruise Lines are taking a major hit in their banking accounts and in their stock shares prices. Down, down, down........ IMHO.

Smaller ships may be the future. Have to monetize passengers better.

All the major cruise lines in the passed ten years have invested and built new mega cruise ships, holding 2500 passengers or more. It is going to be hard to sail smaller cruise ships.

If cruise lines are going to sail with less passengers that will been the costs of a cruise will increase. IMHO.

Open inside cabins to workers. Yes higher prices. Maybe even obligated tours at select ports could work. As the ports will not want people showing up to just walk around. Think of Nassau or Venice where thousands of people arrive every day.

That's a heck of a lot more refunds to process.
I'm still waiting for mine for a cruise set for May. <whine>

Some posters on Cruise Critic are speculating that cruising won't resume until 2022. My fingers are X'd that the two cruises we've booked for Sept. & Oct. next year will set sail. But one of those cruises is on RCCL's oldest ship, the Empress, and several CC members are suggesting she will be sold because she doesn't have the bells and whistles the mega ships have. For us septuagenarians it's itinerary over climbing walls and swirly slides.

Gawd, I hate mega ships. They're the cash cows for the cruise lines.
They're more like floating cities than ships. Hard to tell you're at sea.
May as well be at a condo on Daytona Beach. <rant/off>

We liked X cruise lines, however, I do not feel any cruise line will be sailing in 2020.

Have you been watching the cruise stocks? The perception of imminent return to service, in at least a small way, bolstered the prices up considerably since their low in March. Royal was up as much as about 3x from its low. It’s insane, IMO. These companies are not going to see revenue for a while and their stock values should be in the toilet, yet they are not. Every day I keep convincing myself out of shorting the stocks since I was wrong in March about them and I don’t want to be wrong again. If everyone wants the prices to go up...it just may do so.

I do not have a crystal ball to predict the future but I don’t see mega ships sailing in 2020, yet I do not see them being delayed until 2022. I doubt they have enough liquidity to stay at port for 2 years. My bet is on 2021.

Now I am thinking I should cancel my sailboat trip within Fiji in May 2021. I do not see travel to Fiji being convenient in 2021 without many travel restrictions and wonder if Tradewinds will sail. The only reason I have not canceled is because Fiji Air will not give me a refund. But that is no reason to go.

We still have a T/A booked for November, but only have a $50 deposit on it, so if it doesn't come off no tears will fall.
Assuming a vaccine or effective treatment arrives by this time in 2021, we'll probably consider a river cruise first. Smaller ships, local crews, no port exclusions to trap you aboard. For now, the big ocean cruisers have lost their appeal in our minds. We're fortunate in having taken virtually all the 'bucket list' cruises we've wanted, so going forward it's just repeats of favorites and spending the kids' inheritance.

I liked your deposit of $50.00.

Cruises to nowhere may become a bigger thing. Just for locals close to the departure port.

No a couple nights. Out of major cities. If all crew and passengers are tested before departure it could be somewhat safe (controlled) as far s corona virus goes. Or cruises stop at the private islands in the Bahamas they own. Limited on shore staff.

NCL & Celebrity stocks were down over 6 points today.
But Carnival was only down by a little over 3 points.

I still feel cruise lines will not sail until after November of this year. IMHO.

Maybe, January 2021 if they can survive their one billions dollars or more in losses & law suits.

I've bee telling friends for months that I doubt the big cruise lines will be able to sail in any meaningful way until 2021 at the earliest. I'm currently waiting for Royal to cancel my Sept 20 cruise so I can claim a cash refund (they are delaying as long as possible before canceling, in part to improve their cash flow). Then I'll have to do the same waiting game for my November transatlantic which I doubt will happen.
