Lost camera saga...

Yay! I got my camera back from Lost and Found at the Venice, Italy airport today! I had to pay a service 155 euros to go get it and then to pack and ship it. I don't what I'll be charged for shipping yet as it was charged to hubby's FedEx account.

Expesive camera. But the pictures are priceless.

I deleted a set of vacation pictures one time and felt sick to my stomach until I was able to recover them.

Delighted to hear that you got your camera back. How did they manage to identify it as yours?
Whenever I put a new memory card in the camera I take a photograph of a card with my name and address on it. At least that provides the information needed to return either the card or camera if it's found. Whether it would actually have that effect I can't say as I've not tested the theory, and hope never to do so. :)

Glad you got your camera back. After reading your first thread, I suddenly couldn't find my camera and really couldn't remember the last time I used it. (Use the one on my cell phone quite a bit instead of plain camera) I tore my house apart looking for it. Decided to wait till I got back to FL condo to see if I left it there. When I got back to Florida, was taking items out of my car travel bag and found camera. Both hubby and I had looked there, but camera case is black and inside of bag was black so it just blended in. Glad you found yours and not sure about mine as I wanted a new camera! ;)

Let this be a lesson to all of us to keep track of irreplaceable stuff whether it be trip memories, family pictures around the house, or the 'stuff' in our computers. It doesn't have to be oceans away to be impossible, difficult, expensive, or all three to retrieve!

I called all the airport Lost & Founds. The two in the US never even returned my call. It took about 6 calls to Venice to get to Lost & Found and then to a person who spoke a little English.

I simply identified it. It's a small blue Canon and it was in a black sleeve with multi color stripes inside...and pink stitching on the outside. That did it. :)

Truthfully, I doubt that the busy airports would even look at the photos or contact someone who had lost a camera if they had a name. But that's a good idea in case someone else found it who might.

You know, I had my laptop. I SHOULD have loaded the pics each day onto it. I did try to upload them to Flickr but at 55 cents a minute and poor reception, it would have taken forever so only a couple made it to Flickr. I didn't load them on to my computer because I didn't want to clog it up with pictures. Next time...:)

Get a USB thumb drive with min 2 gig capacity. Should cost less than $10. Backup your photos on the thumb drive.

It's adding up...

Yikes got the Fed Ex bill today. Another $60.00 to ship it and that was using our own business Fed Ex account.

I've now paid more than the cost of the camera to get it back. But I sure did enjoy spending the weekend working on the photos. We got some great ones!
 
Memories are priceless .... great pictures are to kill for. Congraduations on the memories, even the ones about how you got the pictures home.:)
