We have spent our past 4 vacations in Cancun at the Royal Sands. We want to try something different later this year . In looking at Los Cabos, we are wondering which resorts there are comparable to the Royal Sands. We would like a beach that we can swim in (I have 3 teen boys) and prefer to be closer to the town and restaurants, etc..
We also want a 2 br unit with Kitchen(ette) if possible.
I would appreciate any advice you can offer.
Thx
Brian

We traded into Club Cascadas de Baja....very different than Roayal Sands (we own at Rooal Mayan) and loved it. if you can get the front unit over the resturant....I knowyou would love it. The beach is one of the best.

I agree with Nana: Club Cascada de Bajas... I stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Rose, which is next door, and I walked through the Club Cascada several times, and I loved it. The villas are built like "huts" (but luxurious "huts") and it is all very tastefully done. I was told that it was designed by an American architect who ran the place for many years, and his family still runs the resort.... Check the TUG reviews. I would rate this about a "9" which is higher than the average rating they have received in TUG, probably because some Villas don't have great views or something.... It is a very small resort, not flashy, or 5 Star, but I liked the feeling of it... I would prefer to stay here than anywhere else in Cabo, if I will ever go back, which I might, some day. It has everything you are asking for: perfect location in town, more or less where there are restaurants, etc. and on a good beach (for Baja).

You can visit their website here:

I'm not sure that you will be able to trade into it... From what I could see, it might have maybe 20 or 30 Villas, or maybe 40 or 60... but that's it.

If you don't get into Club Cascadas, the next place that I would recommend is Playa Grande, which is more or less the style of the Royal Sands, but about twice as big. It is not as centrally located, but not so bad... I did not particularly like the Pueblo Bonito Rose, where I stayed.

Welcome to TUG! I guess it depends on whether you'll have a car and how many people are going. If you are going to rent a car and have 6 or more going, then I would go with HDM. Without a car, PG's location will be better. Hope you have checked out the reviews for both resorts.

Since I was in Cabo last summer with three teenage boys, I can assure you that you want to stay closer to town on a beach you can swim in or get to easily. The Pueblo Bonito Rose or Blanco would be the best. As far as I know, there are no tvs at Cascadas, and the boys enjoyed watching tv at times. But, you may have trouble getting a two-bedroom unit at either place. You might get a two-bedroom at PB Sunset Beach and you could use the free shuttle to get to Medano Beach.

The Playa Grande would work as far as being near the swimmable beach--you can't swim in the ocean right at the PG because of dangerous waves, but you can get over to Medano Beach without too much trouble. Villa del Palmar would also work for you. It's a little further north from PB Rose, but the beach is usually swimmable there and not too far to walk down to Medano Beach.

If you stay at the Playa Grande you are within walking distance to everything and a very nice resort by the way. You will need a rental car if you stay at the Hacienda.

WE love the Playa Grande with all of the swimming pools etc. even though you cannot swim in the ocean. Very easy to go over to Mendeno Beach to swim and lounge at one of the cantinias under an umbrella. Just order a drink or two and they will take care of you.

We stayed at Club Cascadas the first time we tried Cabo and it was wonderful but as Karen said they do not have TV, telephone or radios. They have 2 swimming pools and swim up bars with hot tubs by each. It is an II or Trading Places resort and very difficult to get into to.

The new Cabo Villas Beach Resort (II) or their other one The Cabo Villas Resort (RCI) are right on Mendano beach and would be very nice.

All of these have kitchens.
