Family-of-six is left heartbroken after $15k cruise vacation is canceled at last minute after they made simple mistake that exposed them to online scammers

  • A Kentucky family's cruise reservation was canceled days before departure
  • The mom of four posted a series of TikToks, detailing how her identity was stolen

After receiving backlash from online trolls, accusing her of fabricating the story, she responded, 'I'm an open book. I talk too much. I give out too much information — that's just me naturally.'
...
She revealed that the culprit likely used the booking reference number she unknowingly exposed when she shared a countdown email screenshot on Facebook weeks prior.
The same day she posted her information, a scammer created an account with Carnival and added the booking number to their own profile. Two days before the cruise was to depart, the scammer cancelled the family's reservation.
...
The company offered her a future cruise credit worth $10,404, but with a condition. They wanted Banks to make a social media post 'saying something along the lines of Carnival having resolved the problem.
Appalled, the mother of four refused their offer:ponder:, and questioned how someone could take over her reservation that easily if they only had her booking info.

Lemme get this straight, this was a problem of her own making and she was offered a remedy of $10K on her $12K loss and she turns it down?:wall:

Exactly. She wasn't being careful with her own information. Still I don't understand what the angle was of the person who did this, is it just plain jealousy? Anyhow, apparently Canada is to blame here... someone with a British Columbia IP address (much like my own).

It was definitely was her fault but something smells fishy here as her booking reference number should have already been tied to her Carnival account. If she had excursions scheduled she would needed it already set up as she got their cancellations in email. If they really wanted to go on that cruise, there should have been a room or rooms open (maybe not what she originally booked), & carnival should have made it happen. Also wondering why she wasn’t working with a travel agent or didn’t have travel insurance. There is more to this story.
