anyone know the differences between village of loon mountain "condos" and village of loon mountain "lodges". both are available for exchange. which should I choose??

rachel

Depends on what you want...I believe the condos are slightly bigger but the lodges are more immediately accessible to the facilities like the pool etc. Regardless...the area is beautiful and you should enjoy. With young kids...I'd probably choose a lodge unit...without...I'd get a condo....but it's all personal preference.

I was not impressed with the place a few years ago and I would not return.

tony,

why were you not impressed? tell more...we are wanting to go in december for skiing. what time of year and how long ago did you go?

rachel

We have stayed at the Village of Loon Mountain twice and were pleased with the condo we got. They upgraded us once to a bigger unit and we were very happy with it. The area is beautiful, especially the Kangamangus highway. It was clean, spacious with a loft which the kids loved, and the resort has 4 pools. I believe the lodges are separate houses away from the main complex and pools. We went in summer amd enjoyed Santa's Village and Storyland when our kids were little. I would visit Loon Mtn again.

Hi Rachel,

I've never stayed at Loon - but it's about 1+ hours away from North Conway - if you find something in or around North Conway I think you'd be happier - more ski mountains, more activities, more restaurants, shopping, etc.

You said you were going in December? Generally, December is not as good for skiing as January, February or March but you may get lucky. This past winter we didn't have as much snow but the ski areas did well because they made snow whenever they could!

If you have any questions about the North Conway area please email me - I'd be happy to give you any information! We live about 1/2 mile from Storyland and own at the Grand Summit at Attitash/Bear Peak.

Debbie's right about more activity in N Conway...but I still prefer the Loon Area and there is Loon, Waterville Valley, & Cannon mtn in the immediate vacinity...with a few others not far off. I prefer the (relative) quiet of Lincoln, NH to the touristy atmosphere of NConway...esp when it's in season. I go to NConway when it's off season and enjoy it more. It's all about personal preference.

We stayed there in August of 2000 at the lodges. VRI had taken the resort over, but the place had the look of falling apart. The units had some new furniture, but were still dated and worn. The balcony was narrow and there was no A/C and it was hot inside. The VCR didn't work, the concrete was crumbling and the dishwasher died midweek and never got fixed after maintenance looked at it. Perhaps things have gotten better since then, but some folks that we met in 2004 still had about the same complaints. I love the Lincoln area over the traffic jammed North Conway, but the Village of Loon Mountain is at the bottom of the list of White Mountain resorts we have stayed at.

Please let's stay current. The lodges have had an upgrade and the staff is great. Comments about the way it was in 2000 don't really add anything to the conversation. I was an owner and had a lot of great visits there with my friends and family. Even when it was a little dated, we still had a great time skiing and dining in Woodstock. The pool and hot tub were clean and well taken care of. The trading power was not that good, but I bought my unit for around $1100 and for that kind of money I think it was well worth it. I bought it at a HOA auction. Donated it last year to the Cancer Society. They sold it for $660. I got a tax break and so the game continues. But I digress.

OK it's a great place, but you gave it away.:D
It might be alright in the winter, but unless they put in A/C and did an awful lot of work, I wouldn't go back in the summer. The best thing that ever happened there was the lodges building burning down and getting rebuilt in 2000.
