I am looking to buy a small video camera or camcorder. I like flip video but I read that they are no longer making it. Is there another camera that is easy
to use and has some editing capability and easy to post video on the web. The main purpose to video recording not use as a camera. I also need a tripod.

What will be the purpose or use of the video? The reason I ask is to see if a Go Pro Hero 3 would work for you. It is arguably the most versatile camcorder ever invented. ;)

Ditto on the Go Pro comment. My son and husband each have one, and love them.

The video recorder mostly use for the daughter to video tape her piano lesson
and during her practice so she can critics herself. I need one that can record good sound.

I may be old fashioned, but I still see no reason to use a smartphone (or a DSLR camera) for video. If you want high-quality video and audio, like a recital/performance, go with a Sony HandyCam. If it is simple, like what you need (recording for learning/critiquing), the GoPro will work. The video on a smartphone is usually grainy (without bright lighting), and the audio picks up ALL noise, meaning the sounds of a piano will be mixed in with other noise in the area.

If you haven't seen it, here is a video where the owner attached a GoPro to the back of a Bald Eagle. One of the commenters called it fake, but if you watch it closely, the bird is real.

I occasionally see video online where someone records a concert with their cellphone. When it is finished, you barely hear the music, but you hear the people next to it super-loud. I think that's why performers are somewhat OK with it, because they know the video will be crap and the sound will be muffled.

DSLR video and lenses are such good quality that people make movies on them.

Have you seen video from an EOS5D MK III and L Cannon lens?

At over $3000 for just the camera body I sure hope it would take decent videos. Can get a decent handycam for under $200 nowadays.

Mine was a post to Simpsontruck driver. Yes that is expensive but you get cinema projection quality images.

The EOS 4Ti or whichever the latest is Will give great images for under $500 and better low light than most camcorders.

Stick with the smartphone. The reason flips went away is because of smartphones. Video quality is usually excellent and you always have it with you. It's super easy to upload to Facebook, YouTube or whatever.

I'm partial to iPhones, but most any good smartphone will do. I have the iPhone 5s now and I love the slow motion 120 fps videos you can take! The video editing right on the phone is super easy and you can do some fairly advanced editing with the iMovie app right on the phone.

I turn my iPad 2 into a movie cam with this, the screen is big enough for playback too.
