Hey everyone,
I'm new to this group and the whole timeshare thing.. About two weeks ago I posted about a friend "giving" us there timeshare, I got a lot of great advice and comments and wanted to share the follow up to see what people think and any advice they may have for me..

The timeshare would be at kingsgate we would get 236 points annually-the maintenance fees are 85 monthly. Currently the timeshare has 350,000 points in rci. I guess there dad deposited all of his points for 2015 in rci. They are asking $1500 for the timeshare plus $275 transfer fee.

when we do the transfer will I get the 350,000 rci points? Do I have to pay an annual fee to rci?

I'm very excited about this and what it could mean for some quailty family vacations! :)

How would I book a vacation when the timeshare is not in my name yet? Are they not going to transfer to me as the new owner?

Your RCI membership is included with your Wyndham program fees, BUT it may take some time to set up AFTER you get the Wyndham contract transferred to you.

If this is their only Wyndham contract, then you might get their RCI deposited points, but this is in no way guaranteed. Someone else will have to chime in on their experiences on this issue. In other words, don't pay any money with the expectation that you get these points. If you do get them, treat it as a bonus only.

I do not know if they retain rights to the RCI points once they get rid of all their Wyndham. If so, perhaps you can use your friend as a middle-man to set up vacations until the points are depleted.

It would also be worth calling in to the Wyndham Title office (1-800-251-8736, Option 2).

I used to think, only because several people mentioned, that if it was the only contract in the account the deposited RCI points would transfer. But now I have also heard that it doesn't transfer. I believe if you call Wyndham title office they will tell you that it does not transfer. So I definitely would not count on the RCI points. When the RCI account gets set, it will be surprise.
The one way you might be able keep them would be to just add your name to the deed, instead of changing the name. Then you would keep the same account number and RCI Account. Then down the road remove the other name.
You friend may not be too interested in doing this however.

With only 1 deed in the Wyndham member number ... and this late in the USE YEAR (a January-January USE YEAR?) ... I would NOT pay for the 2015 points (either in Wyndham or RCI) maintenance fees.

I would NOT pay closing costs TWICE (add your name (1st time) and then later, to remove their name (2nd closing)) ... someone might DIED or play stupid games with the account (like cancelling YOUR reservation and using the points for their vacation).

As for the 236000 points in the member number ... is that 2 deeds? OR is the correct number 238,000 points on 1 deed? If that is 1 deeded fixed week ... that is a VERY GOOD points value to MFs of $871 plus $.55 per 1K of points....equals $4.21 per 1k of points.

Kingsgate is mostly all fixed weeks converted to points...I have 2 converted fixed week contracts.

I called and asked about the point transfer...they asked me if it was the only contract and I said yes....she told me they DO NOT transfer ... I asked if it was more than one contract would they... She said if the member calls she will be able to give more details about this.
I was really looking forward to the extra points in rci but definitely not a deal breaker..I'm told I will get my points in Wyndham points in January so I will wait until then to book my ur first vacation
Thanks for the input vacationhopeful....the 238,000 points is for one deed, now that you mentioned it I probably shouldn't pay the maintence fees until January rolls around.
