Hi,
My husband and I through our Marriott credit cards each has an 85,000 Marriott Bonvoy point free night. We were wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a resort for a weekend "getaway" where the two of us might use this certificate. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For the 85,000/night (100K if you top off) I'd try for a Ritz or St Regis, although some of those may cost more than 100K per night, depending on the city.

We are going to the Ritz Amelia Island, but since I haven't been yet, I can't recommend it.

The Ritz Carlton on the beach in Naples might be a nice weekend.

JW Marriott Essex House, Central Park, NYC....would be drivable from Boston for a weekend getaway. Spend a couple nights, take in a Broadway show.

Which card gives an 85k hotel cert?

Thanks for all of the recommendations!

Even though I don't think of my nights at Residence Inn on Maui in Wailea as the ultimate best way to use 85,000 point certificates (I had two to use), I needed two hotel nights during the week to get a better deal on airfare to Maui. Staying on Maui those two nights saved me a bundle over flying on a Friday night. Plus, the two nights at the Residence Inn with taxes/ fees would have been about $1,400 (both nights together). I decided that was a great use of the certificates. And Rick gets eggs and bacon or sausage for breakfast at the hotel.

I am more than breaking even on my Marriott Brilliant Amex.

I try to make these things work for me rather me working to find the best accommodations. I am already staying at Westin Ka'anapali North for the two weeks after that week via exchanges (really cheap exchanges).

The one with the $650 annual fee.
Yes, but for some reason we got grandfathered in at $450. They didn't raise our rate.

If your renewal date was within 4 months of when they raised the fee they kept you at the lower fee for another year. I think you should expect it to go up on the next renewal

Thanks for the info. We were outside of the 4 month window though as I think the card increased the fee 9/22 last year and our renewal is in late February and charged late March.

Last week we used 85K points per night, but added $150 and stayed a few nights at the Aruba Stellaris resort in the Tradewinds Club. Exceeded our expectations. Worth considering.

How were you able to use the certs with cash? I have tried and if I choose the points with cash option, website will not let me use the 85k certificate.

Did you use points with cash and not the certificate?

One was a certificate and the other was points. Two separate reservations. I couldn’t online either, but I called Bonvoy for the first one (I am titanium lifetime - maybe that helped?).
After securing the first night I called the hotel directly and asked how I could stay with them in the same room a second night. They did it for me.

Will try and next time HUCA. You got a good CSR. I was told there was no way to use the certificate with cash. It had to be MRP points with cash if I wanted that room. With FNA certificates, certificate could only be used for a room that was points only.

A little bit off topic. I just book 3 nights at The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón (Thursday - Sunday) using a pointsaver rate of 148,000 reward points. A $709 hotel rate is a good use of points. They have daily shuttle service to the Ritz Carton Naples (about 2 miles away). My understanding id the RC Naples is not opened yet and won't be until July. For the same stay when it opens is 260,000 and change. We are first spending 5 days at Crystal Shores before going to the RC. aka l0410z
