Both are available in SFX sell off. Both have some pretty bad reviews, but he wants to snowboard. Any more recent opinions?
Thanks,
Liz

The lift for the back side of Heavenly is right at the Ridge Sierra, but the resort isn't in Tahoe - it's just over the hill. If he's just there for the skiing he should be OK. If he wants to be in the middle of the Tahoe action (and there is a gondola right on the "strip" as well) you should look at South Shore - but the Tahoe Seasons is not good... There are LOTS of TS in Tahoe - I think you can do better.

I just can't believe that SFX accepts deposits from the Tahoe Seasons! No WAY is this is a Gold Crown or 5 Star resort and Tahoe has lots of timeshares. So much for SFX only accepting the top resorts!

Tahoe Seasons Resort VS Ridge Sierra

Can you specify how many people are going, and your son's age or is he an adult. This would make a difference.

We read some negative reviews, concerning the Tahoe Seasons too. In spite of that, we booked a 1-BR, 2 yrs ago, and had no issues whatsoever.

While certainly not a Gold Crown resort, it's in a great location,(a short walk to the Gondola at the California lodge), and convenient, (complimentary covered valet parking). It's about 2 miles from the center of town, and you can catch shuttles, if you don't want to drive. It was very clean.

The room that we stayed in was small,(it claimed to sleep 4, but it was quite comfortable for 2) RCI even has a disclaimer, that explains that the 1-BR units were small. The units do not have full kitchens...just dorm size refrigerators, small sinks, and a microwave, (if memory serves).

They have/had a very good buffet breakfast, which was pretty reasonable, but no real dinner type restaurant to speak of. They do have a bar, with "pub grub" and a beautiful stone firelplace in their "great room" The staff was friendly, and there is a decent ski/board shop on-site, and complimentary ski/board storage.

We liked it enough that we're going back this February. Hope this helps!

I used an SFX week to get the 2 bedroom Ridge Sierra for January 18. He wants to go with friends, as well as his girlfriend. He is 25. It is a belated graduation gift from college.
I think he'll have a good time,
thanks,
Liz

That week includes Martin Luther King weekend, one of the busiest weekends in Tahoe. He will have a lot of fun!!!

I didn't realize that. That's great. It means he has to take off one less day from work that way, too. Thanks, Lisa.

Liz:
You made the right choice. Ridge Sierra 2 bedroom 2 bathroom is much more convenient for a group of young adults. It has a full kitchen and they will need it because there are no restaurants within walking distance. Advise them to take food and drink for at least 3 days of stay. If they get stuck at the Ridge Sierra in a snowstorm (and we all hope there will be lots of them compared to last year) they will have a great time as long as they don't have to wary about food and drink. In addition, a snow shovel would be helpful.
Here is a quick comparison between Ridge Sierra and Tahoe Seasons:

Ridge Sierra / Tahoe Seasons
Drive or bus to lift / walk to tram
Limited outdoor parking / ample indoor valet parking
Lots of outdoor steps / indoor Elevator to floor
Roof top Jacuzzi / Outdoor pool and Jacuzzi
Small tub shower / Giant Jacuzzi Tub
Large Bedroom / Small Bedroom
Full Privacy in unit / little privacy in unit
Fireplace in living room / Fireplace in Bedroom
Full Kitchen / Very limited Kitchen
Great Views / Limited or no views
No Internet / Hard Wire in each unit (Pay)
Drive or bus to activities / Activities on Site
No Bar or convenience store / Bar, and convenience store
Washer/Dryer / No Washer/Dryer
No common Area / Large Fireplace in Lobby
/ Large Lobby with big screen TV

Note that the Parking Pass at Ridge Sierra permits access to the Ridge Tahoe facilities, which are extensive, including recreational and a restaurant. This is a also a good place to sign up for Internet access for the Week.

I am sure he will have a great time.

Thanks, I copied that to send to him. The advice about food is good. They probably wouldn't have thought about that at all. He grew up in Wrightwood where we do sometimes get huge storms (4-5 feet at once), but we had 4 wheel drive cars, stocked cupboards and a store in town within walking distance. I'll remind him to take his snow boots too, if they still fit.
