When I moved to Central Florida in 1983 (I was 10.5), there were no warnings at golf courses or hotel/resort pools. During the summer storm season (June - November), there were at least one golfer per week who was struck by lightning on the course. Just think about it, there usually aren't many trees on a golf course so a golfer is the tallest thing in the area. Plus, they have a long stick usually made of iron. Since most courses installed the lightning warning sirens, the golfing death rate has fallen, most golfers are smart enough to heed the warnings. Now that we also have weather apps that will show where the thunderstorms are and lightning counts, there is no excuse for a golfer to be on a course when rain is nearby.
