We are from the East Coast and just got exchanges for February (my birthday) thru II for 1 bedrooms at Polo Towers and Villas on the Greens at the Welk Resort (thanks to TUG & XYZ info on that one).
My question is the location of rooms. I've learned that the location of the room can have a BIG impact on our enjoyment of a unit, ie noise, view, etc. Neither of these confirmations have a particular unit number.
Does anyone know which areas of these resorts are best? Can I call or e-mail the resort asking for a particular unit and if so, when is the best time to do so?
We read various reports on the Welk resorts and are a little concerned about the distance to San Diego and sightseeing, but there was nothing else available in the XYZ and hubby plays golf, so we are hoping for the best. We have been to Vegas before, but never stayed on the strip, so excited about that one too.
Thanks for any help.

Villa's or Suite's at Polo Towers?

We are staying at the Villas at Polo Towers.

In that case, my prefered location is the south end of the building facing west. We prefer a higher floor if possible but, anything above the 5th floor is OK. The east facing rooms are fine as well but I prefer the rooms facing the strip.

About the only loctaion I'm not fond of is the north end of tower facing west. This is secondary to early morning trash collection. Unless things have changed, and they might have since we haven't been to our home resort in several years, trash collection was very early in the morning and VERY noisy. There was also a generator for the cheap hotel (Travelodge I think) that would kick on often enough and loud enough to disturb us.

So:
#1 would be west facing room, south end of the tower
#2 any room facing east is equal IMO

Avoid west facing rooms on the north end of the tower only because of the potential noise factor from early morning trash collection and the hotel power generator the kicks on and is loud.

Welk is a really nice resort. The weather will probably be better than on the coast. San Diego is about 45 min with Seaworld a little closer. The Wild Animal Safari is in Escondido. Not sure if I have a map, but I'll look. You probably want a unit that is not on the first floor for better view.

The nice thing about Villas on the Green is that there is no freeway noise at all. So that's a good thing. I've stayed in a unit on the east side which had a bit of noise from the pool, but I enjoy the sound of children having fun. I've also stayed on the south side - very nice view of the golf course and very quiet.

Hope this helps.
