[MERGED]

I tried to find the old thread on this topic and couldn't find it, even using a Google search.

Aside from our DVC exchanges, which are always very exciting, but rarely at times we would go (like May-September hot temperatures) I also love to get anything on Maui at Westin or Marriott during whale season.

Last year in March of 2024, I entered a search for Maui 2026 whale season, any 2 bedroom Marriott or Westin for the $164 exchange fee. This morning, I have a match for a 2 bedroom, 2/28-3/7, Marriott's Lahaina and Napili Villas, island view. This miraculously filled a blank space I had, when I was unable to get 2/28 at Westin Ka'anapali in our owned unit. I tried for 45 minutes to retrieve the one I supposedly had at the Reserve Now prompt. I did get 3/7 but couldn't get 2/28. At least I did get 3/7.

This is a great exchange. I didn't even need a 2 bedroom. $59 upgrade fee is worth it. Maybe our friends can join us that week.

Moral of this story is to always enter your ongoing searches two years out, if you can plan that far ahead. Sounds crazy, I know it does, but it works.

This exchange came through with my Shadow Ridge Villages 1 bedroom, February week. I honestly doubt I would have gotten this entering a search a week ago.

It's a sticky thread at the top of the forum

Well, maybe that is the thread I remember.

Best exchange: Vidanta Grande Luxxe Riviera Maya 4 BR unit. The unit was amazing We go to experience it twice. The first time we were supposed to be in a three bedroom unit. We arrived past midnight because of flight delays so they had given our unit away. Second time was magical also, but they had started blocking off certain areas since we were not owners. No access to one special pool, limited times at another pool, and no access to the steam rooms/sauna in spa area.

Never had any exchange like that again. I’m sad Vidanta is no longer available through exchange, except by paying exorbitant fees. Would love to go to Vidanta in Nuevo Vallarta

I traded 10,000 WM credits ($1100 MFs) for a 2BR Hilton Vacation Club at The Point of Poipu for June 2026.

The most amazing trade I've gotten --
4 bedroom Vista Encantada, Cabo San Lucas
for my 1 BR Marriott Timberlodge.

(Heartbroken because I had to cancel and lose all fees.)

What a bummer. Maybe next time.

Nice trade. It seems like HVC can be an easy exchange using Worldmark.

About a decade ago, I got an incredible exchange into a 2BR Disney’s Grand Californian. My cost was well under $1000 between MFs and exchange fee.

One evening, I was down at the grills grilling steaks. The guy at the grill next to mine, grilling hot dogs, was talking about how he used something like 300 DVC points to get a STUDIO (which would have cost him several times as much as my 2BR unit did). I didn’t say a word.

It was the first and only time I ever saw Disney’s Grand Californian.

So many other great exchanges over the years (literally 100+), but I think that was my best one.

Great story! Can someone start a “worst timeshare exchange story” thread and would be fun! I don’t have much to share but perhaps someone traded their 3-bed ocean front KoOlina for a Marriott studio in Orlando, only to find out the person next in the hot tub traded into a 3-bed with a studio in nowhere.

One already exists.
There’s a link at the top of the sticky thread.
