I'm with you - GREAT story. Passed on by 30 teams, some of them twice -- and now, quite the leader. His 38 points aainst the Lakers the other night even impressed Kobe :)

I'm not a NBA fan. But as its namesake, I recognize Talent. From the AP Newswire:

NEW YORK (AP) — Jeremy Lin came with an intriguing story even before he escaped the New York Knicks' bench. First American-born NBA player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent. Harvard graduate. Nomad who crashed on a teammate's couch when his brother's place wasn't available.

In just one week, Lin's proven he's so much more. Turns out, he's a terrific basketball player.

"The level he is playing at right now, I have never seen it," Knicks forward Jared Jeffries said. "It is weird for a guy to come in and be a team leader who has bounced around like he has. He has inspired us to play harder because he gives it his all every day. There is nothing he doesn't do on a daily basis." ....

"I don't know what to tell you," Mike D'Antoni said. "I have never seen this. It's not often that a guy is going to play four games, the best you are going to see, and nobody knows who he is. That is hard to do." ....

Lin is drawing comparisons to Denver quarterback Tim Tebow, with the way he impacts his teammates during games and talks about his faith afterward. Forget Tebowing. Linsanity is the new sports sensation.

Local boy does good

I understand he went to a local high school in the Bay Area and that has me following what he does. It is always great to see good things happen to local boys.
We were once known as the Sports Capital of the World in Santa Clara County and having been a part of that time frame it always has me following the locals.

I am very happy for the long-suffering Knicks fans, like my son. Each year he watches the draft, hoping this will finally be the season. Year after year, he is a loyal fan to the end of the tortuous seasons. Finally, now, some joy to their lives! :cheer:

Jeremy Lin will be an asterisk by the end of the season. Guys like him come and go, maybe not so spectaculary, but they come and go.

From where did your get crystal ball? I could use one of those.
He could be a flash in the pan, or he be a time-honored star of the court.
Only the Gods know.

I coached a lot of basketball in my day including a couple of guys who had successful careers in the NBA. No need to argue about it now. Let's look back after the season is over and see how it all plays out.

Or maybe he's the next Kurt Warner. I think he's found a system and a coach that's perfect for him.

The fact that he's an Asian American with a great background story will really help him. It opens up a whole huge community to the NBA that was unable to really identify with any of the players in the league. The NBA isn't stupid and I think they will do everything in their power to make sure he remains relevant.

I think he'll be anything but an asterisk by the end of the season. I think he's here to stay and the NBA will make sure of it.
