I have plenty of US Airways miles and wanted to see if I could use them for a one-way interisland flight from Kauai to Maui. First of all, their web site won't let you book one-way with points. If you try and book round trip with points, it says no flights are available. I decided to try one-way with dollars. What a deal, only $2,173.00. Has anyone else seen such a crazy price?

Don't be a cheapskate, go for first class.:D

That is usually the case with inter-island codeshare flights with a legacy carrier flight number. It is not limited to U.S. Airways. You have to book with a Hawaiian flight number to get the real price. I don't know why they do it this way because they are clearly not trying to sell those codeshare seats for inter-island trips. It is probably because they only have so many of these codeshare seats available to them and want to sell them as part of a trip to the mainland.

Soon those US Airways miles will become American Airlines miles (within the next month or two). Maybe American has some mileage awards?

I found the price at aa.com is not very far from the price at Hawaiian.com when I've looked. Maybe there wasa $10 last summer. Flights were about $115, if I remeber correctly.

HOLY COW!!!!! Those prices are insane! On Hawaiian Airlines' website, you can book a one-way LIH-OGG on Jan 16th for $102/pp in coach, or $243 First Class. Does the USAir website not see those flights? American Airlines' website has an option to search all carriers, and they show the lowest fare with Hawaiian is $129.

Thanks, good idea. I don't have any AA miles (yet), but I checked their web site. They do allow using points for a one way trip, and the flight would only cost 5000 points. I'll check again after they're merged.

As I said, you need to book a flight with a Hawaiian Airlines flight number. That is what you are seeing for $129.

By the way, those are the refundable full fare prices. Any refundable full fare price is going to be jaw dropping. Agree with other posters search for "all airlines" on your airline's website. We've used AAdvantage miles to fly first class on Alaskan to Hawaii -- a great value for 75,000 Saver Rate to fly round trip to Hawaii from anywhere in the US. I wouldn't waste points on inter-island flights -- I think points are still 25,000 do so. Obviously 75,000 for $2000+ flight is a better use than 25,000 for a $300+ flight. :D

75,000 for $2000+ flight is a good deal, but as I posted, it only costs 5,000 AAdvantage points for a one-way inter-island flight.

Sorry, missed that. Yep, that's a good deal ($0.03 per point) -- about the same as my first class example.

I just booked a 1 way flight from Lih-Ogg using my American Airline mile sand it was 5,000 miles on Hawaiian airlines for nonstops. For the same flight United required 6,000 miles and Hawaiian 7,500 miles. One trick though, if I searched for 2 people it only showed flights with a connection that needed double the miles. I ticketed 1 passenger and put that flight on hold and then went back online about 30 minutes later and booked the second passenger.

It just gets crazier. It's good to know all the things to try.

And what kind or aircraft are they using that takes over 3hrs for the one way trip between islands?

Must be one of those 2-seater solar powered propeller jobs

That's counting the stop in HNL.

Just booked our trip for Maui next year. Coming from N. Calif. we love to take Alaska as it's non stop to Maui. But you need a lot of Alaska points to do so. I just found out recently that AA codeshares with Alaska and saved 20,000 miles by booking through them instead of with Alaska.
