To sweeten the Lemon from the Point at Poipu I applied for an American Airlines Platinum Select/AA Advantage card. Here are the goodies I'll get:

1. 30,000 AA bonus miles with the first $750 purchased
2. 10,000 AA bonus miles after $5000 purchased in <=6 months
3. $100 credit on any AA fare purchased <=6 months
4. 2 AA miles per dollar the first year
5. $85 credit card fee waived the first year.

:D

Looks like I'll be paying the Point with my credit card this year and never carrying a balance.

We just got back from our trip and we're probably going with the United card.

25,000 miles after the first use of the card.
5,000 miles after I sign up an additional authorized user to my account.
2 miles for each $1 spent on tickets and 1 mile for everything else.
2 free round trip bags checked.
1st year $95 fee for free.

I'll pay my MF's with this and buy tickets. I won't carry a balance and the free
checked bags will pay for the annual fee after the first free year.

I'm going to give it a try and see how it works. I have to buy my February
tickets yet but I'll wait until I get the card.:D

DRI: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.
If you live in a Delta controlled town like I do, you can get 20,000 bonus miles with your first American Express purchase and up to 5,000 when you add 2 additional cards. The first year is free.

I wonder what the probability of getting a FF trip on American from Austin to Lihue leaving Dec 1st and returning Dec 22nd of 2012.

Probably about the same as finding an honest politician. :hysterical:

You have a better chance on American or United than on Delta! If you could reserve 11 months in advance, you'd have a really good chance to get tickets on AA.
