Is there ANY legit work from home companies out there??
I am a shift worker.... I work 12 hour rotating shifts, so I only work 14 days every 28. I have done this for over 25 years and I am running out of hobbies.
Was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with a work at home company that would fit into a schedule like mine.

These days with the advent of the internet almost any job can be done from home. but instead of looking for a "job" Id try to buy or start a business. The problem that I see are that most of the folks you might work for are control freaks and want you in the office or on the job every day so they can keep an eye on you.and most of the "business opportunities " you see advertised are scams

I met a guy recently that owns a little gift shop in a tourist area. He sells root beer and jerky of all things and is quite successful. He has a manager and employees and operated the business from his home. I think he visited the place once a week or so.

Im working now from an office in my spare bedroom, Im a licensed real estate agent that deals in vacation rentals. Ive never even seen most of the resorts I rent. all mybusiness is online.

In fact most real estate agents I know work from home, and never go into the office.

Ive also met guys that buy and sell stock (day traders) that work from home

Firefighters where I once lived worked 24 hours on and 48 hours off. Many of them had businesses they ran or jobs they worked on those off days.

I have known construction people, painters, floor converters, tile setters who work those type gigs around shift work or fire-fighting or EMT work. It isn't exactly 'home work', but is flexible and can work with scheduled time off from another job.

I am a nurse who used to work from home. Home care staff do it, nurse case managers do it, often insurance company employees do it, at least part time. It has its' perks but it is not all it is cracked up to be. It can be very lonely and isolating. And frankly I often worked longer hours when I worked at home. I had no incentive to get away from the computer and out of the office before traffic became bad.

I know of a young college grad who is doing something with an educational company. It is FT and has perks. It pays more than a "real" job she had before. She misses being around other people though. For a person in her 20s, I'm not sure this is the best thing for her.

I also thought that there are now jobs that allow you to work from home. My neighbor is an IT person and she works from her home office.

But it appears that the OP is not looking for a new job or career, but something to do in spare time and to make a bit more money. So the second point made above comes into play.

I remember reading that a person who was laid off as an engineer opened a hot dog stand and did better than when he was working full time. There a guy with a push cart sort of device and several coolers and he works just outside the parking lot of Home Depot. I imagine he's also doing OK because he's been doing it for years. He doesn't do it in the winter months but he does work in rainy weather. He almost definitely needs a permit from the town.

Not from home, but I have a friend who used to move cars around for Enterprize part time. He enjoyed the work, and the travel, but not the people he worked for.

On a related question would be flexible work (home or office) that pays good money. I will be retired on Monday 2/1, yippee!, but I can see myself being willing to work 3 to 6 months a year while I travel/play the remainder of the year. Consulting, project or short-term contract jobs will fit the description.

HA, tell us how you feel on Tues Feb 2nd. Many do what you're saying, and I thought about it too. That second day when I didn't have to go in, everything changed. I have not worked a day since retiring 8 1/2 yrs ago.

I live in a rural area....the closest city with Uber us three hours away.....so probably not.

Can any of your hobbies be converted into an income business?

I noticed that Redweek has an Ad on their website for online Reps. to work from home. I'm sure the position requires strong computer skill, and lots of Redweek and timeshare experience and knowledge.

Thanks...might look into it

Even better. That means transportation is even more in demand and uber does not take a cut.

I agree with this. People living in a rural area can be truly desperate for transportation. You would be able to provide a service. Just make sure your insurance is in order for this kind of work.

So how do I get Uber to come out here?
