Legacy Resale Week, II required for lockoff?

If I purchase a legacy resale week, not from Marriott, and it gets past ROFR, can I use a 2BR unit that has a lockoff as a 1BR and rent out the lockoff? All without an II membership? I presume Marriott would give me a second account (since I already have a destinations MVCI account), and, that login on MVCI might allow me to do this all without any sort of II? We always go to a certain resort every single year for 20 years now. A second week would be nice. But we only use 1BR, so, any time we could rent the lockoff for anything at all, it would be useful.

If I understand correctly that you want to buy a lock off capable unit, then use it to occupy the 1 Bed yourself and rent out the lock off studio - yes you can.
There would be no need for a 2nd (personal) Interval membership, unless you wanted to exchange this 1 Bed to another resort through Interval (you couldn’t use the studio lock off with Interval if you plan to rent it out)

To lock off any unit (2Br/3Br), it is Marriott who does this for you and you pay $80. Once you lock it off, you can do whatever you want with it. If you want to occupy the 1 br, you can. You can rent out your studio on you own on Redweek. You will only need an interval account if you intend on trading the studio and deposit it into Interval. If you tell me what resort you are buying, I can give you an idea what might be possible. In general, if it is a Hawaii week, you most probably can get a good rental value out of the studio. Other resorts, it depends where it is. Some will, some won't give good value. Having a Redweek account might assist you as well in making an assessment but looking at the rental values - do note just because there are rentals available does not mean it is going to bring you value as some don't rent out and some rental values are out of whack too.

Steve,
Not sure what you need the 2nd week for? A consecutive week for you? A unit for family/friends to stay in when you are there?

I ask because you may not need a 2nd unit to achieve what you need. If you are only using the 1BR now, you could lock off and use the studio of your current week for a consecutive or concurrent week. Also, it seems the week is enrolled, so you could do all of this for no charge. You could even upgrade to another 1BR with your studio for the upgrade fee if you don't normally travel at a super high demand time.

So, when closed, the resold legacy week would be added to my existing mvci.com account with my other one and points. So, I could occupy, lockoff, from the same existing login. It won’t however count for ownership level, and won’t work in destinations II account. All true?

I have a question about locking off too. If you own in a resort where all 2br have lock offs (Marriott Aruba Surf Club), do you need to pay the $80 lock off fee to rent out the studio (and occupy the 1br)?

Yes, you pay to split whether you use it, rent it, or have family stay in it.
