LED Flashlights ???

I have a question/problem and TUG'ers haven't let me down yet.
So.....

I purchased three 21 LED Flashlight ("Torch" in UK) on Ebay.
They arrived today (Saturday) and I can't get them to function !

I emailed the seller, but since it's the weekend, the earliest I MIGHT hear from them would be Monday.

It uses three AAA batteries.
I inserted the batteries into the "holder" (cartridge?).
Inserted the "holder" back into the housing of the unit.
Pressed the switch and NOTHING happens !

The "holder" has (three) chambers to hold each battery.
Each "chamber" has a wire spring and a node.
I don't know which end (positive or negative) should make contact with the spring or node !!!
(It's not labeled with a "+" or "-")

I tried all the combinations I could think of and still NOTHING !!!!

I tried different batteries on each of the three flashlights.

H-E-L-P Tuggers !!!!

Please ???

Also make sure there isn't an insulating disk in the flashlight. We received a flashlight for Christmas that came with batteries and there was a small paper disk up in the flashlight to prevent it from accidentally getting turned on and running the batteries down.

I'll check to make sure there isn't any insulating material !

BTW:
We traded into Grand Vista and loved it !!!!

Mystery Solved !!!

UPDATE !!!

I verified there weren't any insulating material.
I also loaded the batteries, negative contacting the "spring".

Turned the flashlight on and there was the faintest of light visible. :annoyed:

I used new batteries...
well not "new" per se but "unused" batteries.

Since I picked up a 40-Pack of AAA batteries from Radio Shack yesterday,
I decided to try them.

Voila !!!
They WORKED !!!!

The un-used, but older, alkaline batteries were labeled:
"Best if Used By Dec. 2009"

But... they pooped out a year earlier (Dec. 2008) !!!

Go Figure !!!

Naturally... I tossed the pack of "unused" older batteries away.

Another problem solved with the assistance of TUG'ers
