We have stayed at Lawai Beach in February and March and didn’t miss an AC. There is good cross ventilation if you keep the windows open and a couple of fans in each unit. Room AC’s are available to rent for the Ali’i building only.
I don't have AC -- and I wouldn't take one if it was free. (I don't want to pay the electricity bills.)
The entire year, I need sweatpants and a sweatshirt because the nightly lows are in the 60s. And in the winter it dips into the 50s. Then I need a comforter as well. If you're close to the ocean, it cools down fast as soon as the sun sets.
Open some windows and let the trade winds do their job.
This is really a personal thing. When we lived in Wisconsin, we wanted a/c and when we first turned it on in usually around mid to late June it stayed on until some time in September. When we visited Hawaii, I always made sure our condos had a/c and we usually always ran it.
After we moved to Hawaii about seven years ago, we never had a/c. In Oahu we were on the 26th floor and had our windows open year round and we were always comfortable. Since then whenever we went to a different island we never used the a/c. We always had a place with great trade winds and never use a/c.
When we bought our condo in Molokai, I thought we could always buy a/c if we need it. We have lived here almost four years now and we have never needed it. A couple times a year the trade winds die and we have to run a fan but it usually only lasts a few days. We get awesome cross ventilation and the inside temp is always perfect for us. My wife often wears a blanket in the evening.
My point is that it's up to how you live year around. If you usually run a/c in your home, you will most likely want it. If you don't run a/c or if you turn it on and off through the season you could probably get away without it. Just remember, if the trade winds die it will be warmer.
Wyndham; Disney OKW & SSR; Marriott's Willow Ridge, Shadow Ridge and Grand Chateau; Val Chatelle; Hono Koa OF (3); SBR(LOTS), SDO a few); WKORV-OFC-4 and Westin Desert Willow.
I don't need it at Hono Koa in February, and we don't have A/C in those units.
Now June-September, totally different experience. This is why Hono Koa has almost no one there in the summer. You would think that with the fees they are charging, we could have it.
South Kauai can be quite breezy and nice. As long as the breeze is blowing, you should be fine.
