How many laundry rooms are there at the Royal Islander? Where are they located? Is there a charge to use them? Is detergent available via vending machines?

laundry

There is a room off the lobby with about a half-dozen washers and about a half-dozen dryers. There's also a laundry room in the Royal Caribbean lobby right next door if the Islander one is crowded.

No-name powdered detergent is sold at the convenience store in the lobby, for the equivalent of a few dollars, but I'd recommend bringing a small amount of the kind you prefer.

I don't remember the exact price, but it was a few $ per machine/load, billed to your villa - around $6 total for both washer and dryer?

:cheer: The laundry facilities at the tri-royals are great. We use them every time we go to Royal Caribbean. Just take your clothes to the facility with some soap (buy at mimi-mart small amount and it is good quality and offers several local brands) and a very nice lady does it all - load, wash, dry and neatly folds, for very few pasos - what a pleasure!!!

We are owners at the Sands and generally go for 4 weeks. However, we only pack for 6-7 days & use their laundry services. We buy soap at the resort store, and have our clothes washed, dried AND folded for less than $2.00 US per load. Drop off the clothes in the morning & pick up less than 3 hours later. How can you go wrong including a $3.00 tip? We even do this the day before leaving so we don't have a suitcase full of dirty laundry. I'm sure this is the same service provided at all the ROYALS. having laundry done at the Royals

Launes and JlHemenway (and others) -

How do you get the attendant to do the laundry for you? The attendant always directs us to machines to do it ourselves. I've noticed her folding and ironing, but when I've asked if I could just leave it and have her put it in, she's said I have to do it.

Also, a warning - be careful of excess heat and drying time. I've noticed that the attendant twists the dryer knob all the way up. Afterwards a bunch of my cottons had shrunk. Now I make sure to come back before the clothes have had a chance to get overdried.

pjrose,

Again, I am only familiar w/ the Sands, but here is my routine:

I separate whites from colored and request 2 washing machines, one for each. I put my clothes in the washers designated for me. The attendant, I forget her name - forgive me - I should remember, adds the detergent (which I have supplied) for my load, asks me for the washer settings I desire & starts the machines.

The next time I see her is to pick up my laundry. I have never had a problem with shrinking, etc.

I have noticed, however, EVERY time I use the laundry, several persons sitting around waiting while clothes are being washed or dried. Maybe they do not understand the total available service or do not want someone else to handle their "unmentionables". As for me - I have better things to do.

Hope this helps.

having the laundry attendants do your laundry

Thanks, Launes.
Hmmm...at the Caribbean, the attendant always points us to the washer, then tells us to be back at a certain time and goes back to her ironing.
This year I'll try to be more specific about asking her to do it!

That is so funny! The same thing happened to me until I sent my Dad or my husband to drop off the laundry. When they drop it off, the ladies always offer to do it for them. I now make hubbie drop off the laundry!

poll - does sex influence whether the attendant does the laundry?

Aaahhhhh.....I'll send hubby or teenage son and see what happens!

How about a bit of research first - admittedly non-scientific.....

You: Male or Female
Attendant offers to do the laundry: yes or no
Attendant does it if you ask: yes or no

pjrose,

I am a male.
Attendant offers to do the laundry. I have NEVER had to ask! (Actually, she just tells me what time my laundry will be done & can be picked up).

Also, the people I have seen waiting for their laundry to be done are both male & female so I'm not sure that gender is a factor.

gender and laundry

I mentioned this to my husband, who said that the one time he took laundry to the RC she did it for him. I've taken it many times, and never gotten that service even with asking a few times! We need more responses.....
