I have several white shirts that have yellowed under the arms (I presume from deodorant). I've tried bleach but that doesn't work...anyone have any solution to this problem or do I just chuck the shirts out?? Is there a product on the market that solves this problem? When my children were small there was a magic formula to get impossible stains out of their clothing....it had dishwasher detergent in it...anyone remember what else and what amounts? Thanks. Linda

I used to get something called Bye-Bye Baby Stains - I don't remember how well it worked or know if it's still around.

Try saturating the stained area with laundry detergent - one made for whites - and scrub it in with a toothbrush. Let it soak in for quite awhile before washing.

Biz, Spray n Wash, Clorox pre-treating spray etc all work well too, and I think they work better when they're scrubbed in and left to soak.

I've gotten some seemingly impossible stains out by doing the above, usually repeating for several washes.

Hi KCI! My mother had the best solution. 1 part clorox, 1 part liquid laundry detergent, and 1 part dishwasher soap. Make a paste, and put it on the stains, and then put it out in the sun. She got all of our family Christening dresses and Communion dresses pure white doing this. It also works great on baby formula stains. My friends use this all the time, and it often reminds me of my mother getting all of the stains out of my childrens clothing. If you have a colored item, leave out the clorox. Happy laundering!

Thanks Ann Marie...that's what I was looking for...will try it as soon as I know the sun will be out....they are forecasting SNOW here, not much, but SNOW, for Sun into Mon! I'm going back to south FL, where it never snows.:cheer:  :hi:

Liquid dishwasher detergent also contains bleach and might bleach colored clothing.

Hi Ann-Marie,

Thanks for sharing. Is the dishwasher soap liquid or powder? I can't wait to try it too.

No your not!!!! I want to see those nice bleached white shirts on you in June!!

Powdered dishwasher soap makes a better paste.

Liquid dishwasher detergent also contains bleach and might bleach colored clothing.

I found this out the hard way. I was putting gel dishwasher detergent into the dispenser and it splashed on my light purple sweater. It bleached a spot almost white.

(I happened to have a Sharpie marker very close to the color of my sweater, so I colored the spot with Sharpie marker. Not perfect, but better than the bleach spot!)

Haven't tried it yet, but just read that the best way to get those stains out of white clothing was to dissolve an aspirin in a cup of water. Interesting....

I don't have any aspirin in the house, just tylenol but will try it when I get some. I just looked up on the computer how to get rid of stains in armpit areas and came up with this: I will try this too...
Here's how to get deodorant stains out of armpits on clothing-- sprinkle each spot with 1 teaspoon dry meat tenderizer. Scrub the area with a toothbrush until a paste forms. Let it sit for 1 hour, then launder in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric. The papain in meat tenderizer breaks down the chemical bond that forms when acid (from perspiration) touches salt (from the aluminum in deodorant). Doing so can save you a lot of money from buying stain removers. Hope it works!
