Las Vegas --- looking for family friendly place

My nephew is participating in a youth football tournament in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving. My sister is looking for a place to stay that's fun for the kids and off the strip. Seeing as it's November, a heated pool would be important. Westgate looked like a pretty good option, but their pool will be under construction for November. Anyone have any recommendations?

Swimming out doors in Vegas in November may be a bit chilly. Las Vegas is a high desert and it gets cool to downright cold during the winter.

The family friendlier places would be off strip such as most Station Casinos, Sunset Station comes to mind as a good place since they have theaters, game area and child care facilities. But I know there are others, and other folks may chime in.

Las Vegas has an excellent indoor pool with the very sexy name of "Municipal Pool" It runs year round and is about 7 years old. It's one of the nicest public swim facilities I've experienced. It's a couple blocks from downtown LV & Freemont Street.

I am very partial to the Wyndham Grand Desert. it's close to the strip but off it. We have a great time there with my kids. I was there last November and it was warm enough to be in the pool and hot tub. In fact I think I lucked out and it was in the 70s the whole trip.

We stayed at the Grandview in July. It is very family oriented and is about 6 miles off the strip. It's sister resort "Cliffs @ Peace Canyon is also a very family friendly resort off of the strip. It will take you about 20 minutes to drive to the strip but the resort is small, personal and very nice.....Gold Crown.

I agree. We were here in June with two little ones. Very family friendly. Huge 2 Bedroom unit. Lots of parking and easy to get to anything.

Where is the tournament being held? It might be easier to find lodging which is not across town from the tournament.

We stayed at the Wyndham Grand Desert last May, and there were kids everywhere. I didn't see anything that would make it NOT kid friendly.

Price is important though and so far, I can only find an exchange into Grandview -- which is good because I can get her an exchange and others can book rooms at a reasonable price. I'd like to get more feedback on the Grandview from those who have been. The tournament is being held at:

The closest few would be Tahiti Village, then Cancun, then Worldmark on Las Vegas Blvd. But you didn't mention any of those, so I'll go on what you've said here and previously.

I *always* recommend Grandview for folks who don't need to be in the middle of "The Strip" and have teen or 'tween children to entertain. The South Point Casino is right next door, and they have a big multiplex theater, and bowling as well as a resonably priced buffet and coffee shop. Don't know who is playing in their showroom (adults only) but the tickets are always reasonable, too.

If you need space for others, they could also stay at South Point if they don't need condos. The rooms there are very nice and are not real expensive.

If I had to choose between Grand Desert and Grandview in this situation I'd choose Grandview because of the walking close amenities of South Point.

Oh, one more thing. There are tons of restaurants and fast food type places in front of the Outlet Mall at Las Vegas & Warm Springs. Try Raising Cane's if you like Chicken Fingers. Definitely a fast food place, but the chicken and sauce are something special, and its all cooked to order. Know, though, that all they serve is chicken fingers, their own (great) sauce, Texas toast, fries, coleslaw, and sodas.

We will be going to Grandview at the end of this week because our daughter has a basketball tournament. South Point is the tournament hotel. It was cheaper and easier for us to get a week in timeshare at Grandview than what South Point was offering for a mini-suite for three nights. We will report back and let you know but it does look very family friendly for all the reasons Fern mentioned.

If you are going to be there this weekend, Gary Puckett is playing in the showroom, and the tickets are very inexpensive. He still has a great voice. Sings old-time rock and roll (there's a sample on the South Point website).

I just had lunch at South Point's buffet today. Not fancy, but good food and only $8.95. I had a twofor, so that was for two people!

The coffee shop has (in addition to everything else) good Chinese food from 11 Am to 5 AM. There's also an ice cream shop in the front of the casino near the doors.

I would like to offer you the possibility of renting my 2BR unit at Polo Towers for that week. Although it's located on the strip between MGM and Planet Hollywood there are still a multitude of "family friendly" things to do..

The Hawaiian Marketplace right out front, The arcade @ New York New York along with their famous roller coaster, a multiplex movie cinema within 100 yards, a mall across the street at Planet Hollywood.. the activities that can be found @ M&M? world, the Lion experience @ MGM, thew jousting and carnival atmosphere @ Excalibur, the fountain @ Bellagio, I could keep going... all within walking distance and not too far from the action for Mom & Dad too..

This is a 2BR unit with full kitchen and plenty of room to spread out.. stay away from the cramped (sometimes smokey) hotel rooms, why not enjoy all the comforts of a 2BR Condo (sleeps 6) right on the strip..the pool and hot tub are on the roof and usually are warm enough to swim right up to December.. they've been talking about heating it,but I don't think that's happened yet, if not there's always the hot tub on the roof.

THE GRANDVIEW: It's a great resort and the location is perfect for anyone who does not want to stay on the strip. The 2 bedroom units are all lock-off's. Each side appeared to be exactly the same. They are large, super clean and close to the South Point Casino. The South Point Casino has a movie theater (I believe it's 14 screens), a bowling alley, restaurants that have very good food and the price is reasonable.

When we checked into the Grandview our rooms were not ready. We had the two BR lock-off. It was about 3:30. We went to the South Point to check it out, came back to the resort and looked over the facilities, saw the pools, exercise room and small restaurant on site. When we went back to check in they gave us a coupon for a Free Buffet (for 4) because we were delayed getting into our room. Good customer service!

Anything else you need to know just ask. But I really think you will love the place.

What are the best units to request at Grandview? View of the stip far away? Top floors? Away from the construction noise? Any ideas or tips appreciated.

We have a two bedroom (which is two one bedrooms with access throught the foyer) and three one bedrooms. Thanks.

And bummer....so there is no cooled access to South Point?

The only access to South Point is across a small street and partway through a parking lot. The two places (Grandview and South Point) are under completely different ownership.

You could always see if you could get the shuttle to drop you off there

And bummer....so there is no cooled access to South Point?
