We had a few discussions about this last year. Having had my replacement (long, ugly experience) top loading large capacity Whirlpool Cabrio now for a year I thought I'd report back.
Can it handle large loads? Yes. Convenient for comforters or throw rugs, but for clothes - it just creates a huge tangled mess and clothes SO WRINKLED you have to iron everything. I have resorted to doing basically third loads (probably half of what I used to do in my old top loader) so that the wrinkles, thou still bad, are not horrendous.
Does it save water like the claim? Who knows, but I doubt it. I have a see-thru lid so I can see the water usage. The tub is so large and there does not seem to be a sensor to adjust water use according to the level of clothes....so my 1/3 loads use the same water as a full load would.
If and when we move again I will definitely leave this one with the house and buy something else. Not sure if I would go with a front loader or just go back to the usual, inexpensive top loaders.
