What a deal! What was great about Lakewood was ten hours in a beautiful boat, just pay for the gas. And that was even if we traded back in there.

The press release article sounds to be good to be true.
What are the current Lakewood Resort owners impressions of Treetop offers?

Treetops Village has standalone units in a really nice wooded lakeside area, and the resort has docks as well. Don't own there but have stayed there a few times. I'm guessing the offers would be for mostly off season units?

I think it's a shame, but the developers will eventually get ownership of the resort. We have stayed there twice and it was great. If you are looking to purchase a unit at the lake, Tree Top Condominiums has many units available for sale very reasonably with maintenance at about half the cost at Tree Top Village. We have owned there for over 30 years and love it. the website is treetopcondos.net.

77,000 RCI points (Sunrise Ridge Resort, TN)
I just saw this on an RCI Members FB page. I checked in here for any news that may have helped the author of the post and saw this thread.

"I just called Lakewood Resort in Osage Beach MO, to discuss our reservation for October 12, and was told the resort is closing permanently on October 5! I made the reservation on September 1! I have started a “chat” with RCI to find out why they haven’t notified us, what the plan is for returning points and exchange fee. Has anyone else heard about this? We were there last fall and knew that the new enterprise zone was going up around the resort and it would likely be bought out and probably demolished, but assumed if reservations were still being made, maybe the resort was going to be okay after all. "

It appears the resort is no more!

i never stayed there, just deposited for RCI points -- good value for that. I expect this is an unusual story in the timeshare world: I bought in for $500 several years ago when a timeshare resale company offered it to me (I was discussing a transaction about another timeshare). This was a "special offer" because someone wanted to sell and at a low price. I decided to buy it just to trade for RCI points. After several years of good RCI point usage, it is now being sold to a developer. My $500 investment turned into $14096 sale!
Yes I paid maintenance fees year by year, but I do not consider those as part of the investment as I used the points to get value about that of the fees. I will enjoy the profit of $13,596. Would never "invest" in timeshares, but this was a windfall.
