We are visiting my wife's sister in Prior Lake, MN and then going to Clarkston, MI to visit our daughter. We are taking a load of furniture in our MiniVan and looking to take the Lake Express High Speed Ferry: MILWAUKEE, WI- MUSKEGON, MI. Has anyone taken this Ferry and how is it? Also, would appreciated recommendations on motels close to the Dock in Milwaukee that would be ok to leave our Loaded Van overnight. This would be in September.

I took it maybe three years ago, so memories are a bit hazy.

The waiting area on the Milwaukee side is quite nice, fairly stark on the Michigan side. Food available both in Milwaukee and on board. Seating on board is okay. Given how fast it gets you across, nothing spectacular is needed. The one negative is that I thought that the lake looked fairly calm the day I took it eastward, but the boat still swayed enough, walking was somewhat of a challenge.

If you ever took the Badger from Manitowoc across the lake, while that ship is much bigger, I would always choose the Milwaukee run both for speed and comfort.
