We are currently at Westin Lagunamar and were offered $150 USD resort dollars or 30,000 Bonvoy points.

We have little knowledge of Bonvoy points so, what are they worth, do they expire or would they have any value for use since we only own vistana resales?

Would like to educate ourselves prior to going.

Thanks in advance.

Bonvoy points are the hotel reward program points. You can use them to book hotels. That’s about 1 night somewhere half decent. Go but don’t buy anything lol report back the lies they tell you. Something like you have to buy aventuras in order to book in the new program. The new program they don’t know what, when, and if is coming

I always get the resort credit, and apply it towards my charges for Mexican Fiesta night, Steak night, pool drinks, etc. Easy to rack up $150 at Lagunamar.

According to the points experts, Bonvoy points worth averages about 0.8 cents each. This can vary widely with use. Go to marriott.com and see where you'd want to go and what 30k points will get you. Click on use points when searching.

Thank you, just left our presentation and heading to the pool chairs. We'll report back later. One thing we didn't know was that Marriott does Air-bnb!

Ok, nothing really new to report. 660,000 Marriott owners vs 220,000 Sheraton owners, so once everything gets fully merged demand will go up and availability will go down.

However, if you buy in to one of the new packages now you move to the front of the line and all is good.

We were up front about purchasing our weeks resale.

They anticipate that the merger is approximately 75% complete and will be 100% later this year.

The presentation was professional and low pressure.

In the quality check, they offered either 5 days/4 nights and 100,000 bonvoy points for $1195, or 7 days/6 nights and 100,000 points for $1495. $99 administration fee on both offers with free shuttle from airport. That offer is open until we leave.

I got this from a very reliable source. Anyone please verify.

Marriott will be implementing ROFR beginning in March for WLR

Marriott will not be doing retros but not sure of the date. This is suspect IMO.

Saw building 10 floor 7 rooms being refreshed. Dark wood was painted white. Furniture was the same. Was told this painting will be done going forward until all units done. No time table

They offered to reto ours but stated they had stopped offering this as Marriott put a stop to it.

They said Marriott was honouring all pre sales before the merge so no worries of what we owned losing value or original benefits.

Our offers, at first it was purchasing 81000 for $28,000. Then 67,100 for $17,000 eoy. Last and final was 44000 eoy for $10,200. Also offered 10% off because of the Canadian exchange.

If they can start ROFR at Lagunamar, why would they not do it with every other resort they own?

There is some logic to this. Since Marriott's stated reason for acquiring Vistana was to gain access to the Mexican properties, by exercising ROFR they increase the available inventory for MVC access. Also, there appears to be limited access to Lagunamar for Aventuras, and this would also increase trust ownership.

Yes, looked fresh and much brighter vs the dark wood. If I can get a photo I’ll post. I hope they put new furniture too.

You are right on. I just talked to my source. They will use ROFR to increase Adventuras inventory vs retros. Doesn’t hurt sellers but can making a deal harder for buyers as they have a competitor.

Perhaps we can have a forum when this kicks in to share information on resales.

As much as things cost at Harborside, the resort credit should be $200.

I doubt they can just implement ROFR on WLR resales on a whim. Thought it had to be stated in the original documents like at WKORV and WMH. If they could just do ROFR on any resort then why wouldn’t they do it to WKV and other mandatory resorts that actually have value?

I totally agree with you, they would not start just with Lagunamar. On the other hand, it seems that Aventuras is short of Lagunamar inventory (both gold and platinum) and I am sure they will want to address this somehow because with every new owner the problem is getting bigger and bigger.

Maybe they'll be stepping into the resale market and directly repurchasing units for Aventuras.

How long has it taken for update points to appear in your account When you choose them as you gift for sitting through the update?

They told us that it could take up to 30 days. No idea of that is correct.

One time I didn't see my points for almost 6 months. I called to find out why. They said they opened a new account under my name and put the points in there. You gotta stay on top of it. Another reason I go for the resort credit, it gives me immediate satisfaction.

If you have your Bonvoy account number with you, they'll appear in as little as 2 week. I had the app with me when we did our owner update on 01/20 and they were deposited on 2/01

I’ve been doing the owners update at WLR Christmas week, since they opened, never had a problem with points being deposited, usually within 10 business days or so.

One thing that did surprise me was in regards to our representative not being well versed in mandatory vs voluntary ownership.

He stated he was familiar with TUG.

He asked a couple times if we could see the value in options and points vs straight weeks. I explained we were here now using options not straight weeks. He was puzzled as we don't own here and only owed resale. He then questioned us about being locked into Fri/Sat/Sun check-ins as we wouldn't be with Bonvoy. We explained we weren't as we are using options. After that he seemed intrigued, asking some other questions relating to manditory such as if we could book less than a week or if we are restricted to certain amount of bookings.

I quickly explained if purchasing resale to ensure it was a mandatory unit. He then switched to how much easier it is to get what you want at 12 months vs 8. He mentioned a couple times about the value of using Bonvoy points vs straight week vacations, so I'm unsure he completely got it.

Again, not a high pressure pitch but I would have thought they would know more about the differences.
