Hello from Cancun. Sitting outside at Lagunamar now just waiting for our unit to be ready. Looks like a great resort so far, but haven't seen much.

I tried a quick search on this but didn't turn up anything that specifically applied to my question.

When checking in the checkin agent went over the different nights that they have at the Oceano restaurant; Mexican Party, Steak Night, and Pizza Pasta E Vino (Italian). Has anyone eaten at Oceano for either the Mexican or Italian nights? Looks like the cost is around 350 peso per person. I was wondering if they were worth it and if the food was any good or if we are just better to go elsewhere? We have a few open nights where we don't have anything specific planned yet.

We tried the Mexican night and the Italian night and they were OK with some Mariachi singers for Mexican night and some other singers and musicians for italian night. We mainly went either on site or restaurants in the mall across the street as my wife had 3 broken toes and was wearing a boot and I got her a wheelchair when we were there so we didn't go out much for dinner.

Onsite restaurants decent - nothing more. Our experience last October was some very nice but not spectacular restaurants. But really, sorry about your wife's toe but cabs are cheap and it would be easier to take a cab to a restaurant than to shlep across the street.

Read the other posts on Lagunamar for some very decent restaurants. But to your point, meals onsite will be okay - nothing more.

We had a lot of fun at the Mexican night. The food was good, and I liked the mariachi band roaming around the tables. After dinner, we won a bottle of tequila throwing darts at balloons, and the kids had fun whacking the pinada for candy. It was a fun event. The Italian night was OK, but not as much fun. I think I was disappointed because there was no pasta or veal on Italian night. As I recall, I was most disappointed with the steak night. The food wasn't so good, and it just wasn't any fun. Our steak night was at the restaurant by the big pool, not in Oceanu.

Thanks for the replies.

Sea Six, while veal isn't much for us, pasta on an Italian night would be. Are you saying they didn't have any pasta options on Italian night?

If so, we will probably skip the Italian night and just go for the Mexican night, it sounds like it may be fun.

No pasta - I thought this was very strange. Not even a tray of lasagna or rigatoni. I think their breakfast buffet is the best thing going at Oceanu - especially if you like mimosas. I remember making a comment to my wife that even the poster in the elevator for Italian night had pasta in the picture, but there was none to eat. Maybe we just went on a bad night, I don't know.

Correct they had no pasta and we don't eat meat so they made up some fresh fish for us as a special order and the fish was very good.:hi:

We just returned from WLR and we really enjoyed Karaoke night at Dunas. The burgers were good and we had fun watching people sing.

I agree with the breakfast buffet being the best part of Oceano, but even that is not all that great.

The food at Viento and Dunas is really the only food we've enjoyed at the resort, but that is very casual. There are so many great restaurants in the area within a short walk. I wouldn't waste my time at Oceano.

I have done the Mexican night twice and have been very pleased with both the food and entertainment. We were not as pleased with the other buffet nights as the food was repetitive and uninspired. The open air pool bar restaurant has reasonably good bar type food.
