I am leaving to westin lagunamar on November 7th. Do I need to rent a car from the airport? I am going there with 3 children - ages 13, 12 and 6.
Is there any shuttle bus between the airport and the resort? How far is the resort from the airport?
And can I purchase the local tour package from the resort? Royal resorts have the tour guides and company in the resort and I don't know if WLR has the same thing, because it is quite new resort.
Thanks!

You can arrange for a rental at the resort. Contact the Concierge desk to make all of your arrangements.

The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort concierge desk is located in the lobby of the reception center and is available to assist with dining and day trip recommendations and reservations.

There is no need to rent a car in Cancun IMHO since taxis and public transportation are readily available and reasonable. It is about a 15 minute taxi ride from airport to Resort:cheer:

So it sounds like maybe there is a car rental company on-site at Lagunamar. If so, does anyone happen to know which company runs it (e.g., Avis, Hertz)?

We just returned from WLR, hopefully you will love it as much as we did. We booked our airport transportation here. It worked out great for us. We did the owners update tour and got a discount on a tour to Chichen Itza through the concierges desk. We would not recommend the "jungle tour" unless you just like to ride in the boats, the snorkeling was nothing special. I think the coral reefs are still recovering from Wilma. I would be comfortable renting a car, but if you are just planning on using it around Cancun, the bus system worked great for us. We might rent one next time so we can to Playa Del Carmen or Tulum.

The car rental at the Lagunamar is Dollar. There were more rental companies (Avis, Hertz and Budget I think) right across the street at the La Isla shopping center. Here is a couple more pictures.

The resale unit I purchased was recorded by SVN today and I booked WLR for 6/13/09. :) A few questions.

1. How much is the taxi ride from the airport to WLR (there's 5 of us).

2. Do folks usually purchase the insurance when renting their cars in Mexico. I was looking up prices at the Dollar site, a week is very reasonable at $190, but purchasing the insurance at $25/day just about doubles the price. We'd really like the flexibility of just jumping in our car, but maybe we'll just rent one for 3-4 days at WLR to visit the sites.

3. What are the 3-4 tours, excursions, etc. that you would recommend? We have three children (12, 9, 6).

The photos look great...can't wait to go.

Thanks for the advice!

I think the Lagunamar is just as good as anyone else when it comes to booking an excursion/tour. I/we would recommend going to Chichen Itza. We did it along with a swim in a Cenote and it was amazing.

We did not do it we were told when we come back w/ our kids we have to go to Xcaret. We have friends who have been there and they loved it. Also we went to Isla Mujres and saw people at Garrafon doing the zip line and it looked like a blast. We also heard the best snorkeling is there as well. Oh yeah, to spend more of your money you can swim with the dolphins there too.

We have been to Xcaret (from a cruise ship about 5 years ago). It WAS amazing! And the diving in the area is fantastic too. Thanks for the pix. They are gorgeous. Can't wait till April 09! :cheer:
