We will be staying at Ko Olina this summer in an Ocean View unit as 1st time owners. What do you recommend for best tower/floor? Thanks

You will be in the tower you purchased, ask for a high floor for a better view.

Your'e in Hawaii! There isn't a bad view!:D

Seriously. I didn't think there was a bad view. We were in the tower where the check in desk is - I can't remember the name and could see the ocean and the island. I agree with the previous post - high floor would be the best.

we are going in a month on an exchange. Are all ocean view?

No, they have many garden view rooms. Call the actual resort (not interval)about 2 weeks before you go and they will tell you what view you have. They can not promise a specific room but the actual view should be known by then. Many will disagree but I have always received the view that matched the actual exchange I am also a Marriott owner so maybe that helps?

We have a "mountain view", I think. It looks out over the golf course, marina, oil refinery or something other than the ocean. I would never pay so much more for a room view anywhere, but here there is construction that sure looks like it will obstruct many of the "ocean view" rooms people bought.

In the original tower, the building is about at right angles to the ocean so most of the units will overlook the ocean, only a few do not. In the newest tower, the front units overlook the ocean directly but the back units overlook the golf course

I have seen the developer's map (actually a rendering) but not sure where my unit is

How would I find out where unit 4419C50 is?

So you are saying that when you buy Ko Olina, you buy a certain building? That is the first I have heard that for a floating week resort.

Our legal ownership at Ko Olina is a Makai (ocean) view in the original building. For our 2007 stay, we were in the second building. We had a decent ocean view, about halfway up the building. So, in our case at least, we were not "in the tower [we] purchased."

Before we became owners at Ko Olina, we exchanged into the resort. My understanding is that exchanges go against specific view inventory -- Mauka (mountain) or Makai (ocean). When II confirms the exchange, you get the view associated with the owner's deposit.

I agree that high floors are desirable, and it doesn't hurt to ask. But keep in mind that there's an order in which rooms are assigned. The exact order is not published as far as I know, but I think it's safe to assume that multi-week owners who booked as early as possible are at the top of the list, and exchange guests from non-Marriott properties exchanging into rooms that were booked by their owners relatively recently would be at the other end of the list.

However, a 10-week Mauka (mountain) view owner who booked at 13 months should still be assigned into a mountain-view room (probably into one of the best mountain-view rooms). Yet a 1-week exchange guest who got a last-minute exchange into Makai (ocean) inventory should still get an ocean-view room (probably on a flow floor or with a less-than-perfect view).

Of course, luck and timing play roles too when it comes to room assignment (at any floating week timeshare resort).

Ko Olina is a wonderful resort.

December, 2007

Aloha Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club Owner,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Edgar Gum and I’m the new General Manager at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club. For those of you who are wondering, Chad Jensen and his family have relocated to Southern California and he’s now the General Manager at Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas. I may have met many of you during my 20+ years with Marriott, most recently as the General Manager at Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club and as the opening General Manager at Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club.

As your new General Manager, I’m proud to share with you the exciting developments taking place at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club. There has been a lot of activity since we last updated you, and we can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself. Until then, let me take a moment to tell you what you can expect when you return to your home away from home in paradise.

Our expansion plans continue to be on schedule.
We are pleased to announce that Phase 4 of our resort is on schedule with an anticipated occupancy date of January 2009. The Hale Naia tower will include 114 two- and three-bedroom villas. In addition to the villas, this building will bring several new amenities including the Naia Pool Bar, a satellite fitness center, a pool with a water slide and swim through grotto, several whirlpool spas, and a barbecue area.

‘Ono (delicious) dining available at the resort.
Chuck’s Steak and Seafood has been opened for nearly a year now and is a welcome addition to the family! The restaurant has a distinctive island feel that blends the paniolo (cowboy) tradition of Hawaii with the rich fishing history of the islands. The menu features USDA prime beef and high-quality fresh seafood. All entrées are served with a choice of sides and fresh salad bar.

Pro golfers have found a sweet spot on our course.
The LPGA Fields Open tournament will be held once again at Ko Olina from February 18 – 23, 2008. The 2007 tournament had another exciting finish that ended with Stacy Prammanasudh defeating Jee Young Lee by one stroke. Unfortunately Michelle Wie did not participate due to an injury but we hope to see her return next year. For more information regarding the tournament schedule and ticket purchase, please visit the Fields Open website at http://www.fieldsopen.com/staging/. Due to the tournament, the Ko Olina Golf Club will be closed during this time, but please feel free to contact our concierge desk at 808-679-4728 for other golfing options.

Our resort is energy conscious and earth friendly.
We continue to look for innovative ways to reduce energy consumption, which lowers your expenses and helps to protect the environment. Recycling has become a way of life at Ko Olina. Year to date, we have recycled approximately 10 tons of glass, aluminum, cardboard, and paper while recycled green and wet waste has amounted to 170 tons and fry oil at nearly 1,000 gallons. Our Engineering team has been very busy installing WATT stoppers and compact fluorescent lights throughout the resort. In 2008, we will be installing ceramic tinting to the window glass in our villas, which will limit the heat transfer from the exterior, thereby reducing energy costs and prolonging the life of fabrics in the villas.

Our associates outshine the rest.
We’re very pleased to share with you that three of our associates have received very distinguished awards this year from Marriott International and Marriott Vacation Club International. Raymond Donato, our Food & Beverage Manager, received Marriott’s highest award, the J.W. Marriott Award of Excellence. Of over 100,000 Marriott associates worldwide, only ten are selected for this distinguished honor each year. Raymond was the only Marriott Vacation Club International award winner and we are very proud of his accomplishments.

Lawton Mauai, our Loss Prevention Manager, was named the 2007 Marriott Vacation Club International Loss Prevention Manager of the Year. Lawton has taken the initiative to work with our local civil defense leaders to ensure that our resort is well prepared in the case of a natural disaster.

Vena Chang, our buyer at The MarketPlace, was awarded the Marriott Vacation Club International Gavin "Deac" Coyle Memorial Award. This award is presented to a back of the house associate who best exemplifies the ideals of aggressive hospitality, a passion for the customer, and is a model for hospitality skills.

We are also very proud of our Activities and The MarketPlace teams. Based on the feedback that we receive from our Owners and guests through the Guest Satisfaction Survey, our Activities team ranks fourth in the company and The MarketPlace is first in the company.
