It is getting good reviews on the news and local paper. My friends had lunch there a week ago and loved it. I think all is well. However, they opened, but they are not finished with construction yet and I wouldn't rush to stay there.
We were there last wk (9/15-9/30). KoOlina front gate has changed to expedite Hotel guests. Overall so far Disney is a positive. We'll be back next mo. for our usual six mos. Family staying at the Aulani for Thxgvng.
Disney Vacation Club (Aulani,SSR,VGC,VGF) Hilton Grand Vacation Club(Bay Club, Kohala Suites, The District) Marriott Vacation Club (Aruba Surf Club, Grand Residence, Grand Chateau, Grand Vista,Harbour Lake, KoOlina,Willow Ridge & DC points)
Nothing really different. It seems the place got a shot in the arm with the spucing up of the common areas for the opening of Aulani. Lagoon 1 is way busier now with disney there. Also kapolei dennys and target seem to be a lot busier with guests from Ko Olina. Last night and the previous sunday overheard Aulani guests asking for directions back to the resort. The restraunts on site are a little to expensive for what they provide IMHO. The upscale ABC store and hawaiian bar b que across the street have way more traffic now with Aulani running.
I would say it has been a positive for the economy. I also applaud Disney for being so culturally sensitive to hawaii. Great sense of instilling hawaiian cultural with disney flair and magic!
