I would love to see an Atlantis resort build on Oahu, especially in Kapolei. This is a beautiful area of Oahu, away from the madness of Waikiki Beach. Not that I don't like Waikiki Beach.

There are a few obstacles to an Atlantis resort with a water park in Ko 'Olina. While not nearly as good as an Atlantis water park , there is already a water park nearby in Kapolei, plus the newer Wai Kai wave pool in Ewa Beach

There was already a little bit of community opposition to Wai Kai, there would probably be a bit more to yet another water park in West O'ahu, which is the dry side of the island where water usage levels are sometimes a concern.

At any rate, has the new landowner even expressed an interest in building an Atlantis resort with a water park? So far all I've seen is that it was the previous owner's plan.

So, still no neighbour for MVC (yet)🥳👍😎

Last I saw, a good while ago, one of those spaces was going to become a concert venue for Asian pop concerts but I guess that's no longer the case.

Would be nice if they extended the light rail system to Ko Olina so you could get there without a car.

What they have is drastically over Budget and years behind. It is questionable if they can afford to complete the original plan.

Well they should be tolling the freeways to reduce traffic congestion. That should generate plenty of revenue.

Without a substantially enhanced and enlarged Light Rail System (which they can not afford to build) they can not afford to reduce cars on the Road.

If they could stop Tourist from using the Roads that would help. Maybe they should impose a $100 per day Tax on all car rentals to help fund improvements.

If they charged people would just stop driving so much. Most trips are discretionary anyway.

Actually they can't afford to complete the original plan for the rail. The 2009 plan, which was misconceived anyway, it only went to the Ala Moana Center. Two of the main sources of traffic, the University Campus at Manoa and Waikiki were not included in the orginal plan. The current plan only goes to the growing Kakaako Community which they keep calling a walkable community but they build lots of parking for each building being built. Furthermore, even though Hawaii has a goal of being 100% away from renewable energy by 2045(think electric cars) the new buildings they are building are not required to have the capability to charge an electric vehicles!!

In 2009 when I first heard about the plan for the rail I said they should start in downtown Honolulu where the traffic mostly wants to get to during rush hour. Then branch out to the outer areas to enable people to get to downtown. They started at the farthest point West of the route. At present the ridership is under 2000 per day since it only goes to the Stadium and not to the downtown area where the heavy traffic really needs to get to during rush hours. Of course the other areas which would really benefit from the rail and reduce traffic; Ala Moana Center, Manoa Campus and Waikiki are not even on the drawing board.

The issue with going past the stadium is right of way. Overhead seems the only plausible solution. They studied underground but with all the underground utilities going into Honolulu and Waikiki it was a no go finding a route.

I am never sure if people are being sarcastic about this stuff.
It always reminds me about the Gov & the HI Tourism Board complaining that tourists don't spend enough do-re-mi. It is hilarious. They spend money trying to STOP tourists from doing things. The state itself spends almost nothing trying to make it easier for tourists to spend, and yet they feel fully self-entitled to have per-capita spending rise much faster than inflation does. Hilarious. Compare that with what the govt of Mexico spends on improving infrastructure for tourism.
The point is not that HI isn't a great place to visit. It is. I go every year for multiple weeks. The point is the hypocrisy and self-entitlement. Just read the Gov's and the Tourism Board's stuff. There is always this whining in it
