I decided not to hijack rthib’s thread “Ko Olina 2 bedroom sleeping capacity” though the question is closely related.

How much are the stated room capacity limits enforced at KOBC, specifically the studio lock-offs, but all in general?

Here’s why I ask. On Redweek, the studios are all (AFAIK) advertised as 4 guests, yet MVC (and II and Bonvoy) states 2 is the capacity.

I chatted online with a MVC rep and asked whether the 2 was the number of adults or total guests. His/her response was interesting:
(Paraphrased) “it’s two, regardless ;) “. I thought the wink emoji was odd. Maybe I’m trying to read into something that’s not there.

So I then called the KOBC front desk and asked the question using the not-really hypothetical example of what happens if a couple shows up with a couple of kids in tow. Her response was (again paraphrased) “well if it were just a couple of children, would let them stay, but not if there was a third adult.”

Now, one phone response from a front desk clerk doth not a policy make, but I’m not sure what to think. I would this happens occasionally if not frequently, but I haven’t found a plethora of horror stories.

What happens when someone rents from Redweek or anywhere else expecting to jam 4 adults into a studio tries to check in?

Anyone with knowledge/experience/anecdotes?

II shows them as 2/4 so they would seem to indicate that you are allowed 4?

Thanks for catching that. Which adds to my confusion. I just confirmed no availability for 2 adult , 1 child on Bonvoy site for a night that had an studio available.

That is what prompted my question, but appreciate this is a different twist.
And also, If you show up will they give you 4 wrist bands for the pool?

I don't think any of us can actually answer the question of what's allowed by MVC. It's unlikely that anyone who responds that they had 3 or 4 actually asked the question. If it's important, I'd call the resort but I can't imagine they wouldn't allow 4 in a studio. That doesn't necessarily mean they'll allow 12 in a 3 BR though but they might.

I askd FD and they say 4 is allowed.

On the 3br you can sleep 10 comfortably with Master bedroom(King+2), Living room (King sofa sleeper+2), 2nd bedroom (two double beds+2), Lock off(King+2) and full size sofa sleeper+2). The double beds could fit 2 small children but it would be tight. No way to average American adults will be able to fit in the double beds comfortably. But maybe that is how II occupancy sleeps 12?

I am here also if you want to meet up again. I am in Naia 30703. I am actually leaving for breakfast and will be back at about 1230pm if you want to meet up.

Haha. The front desk probably think why people are asking this question today. Sorry, we just checked out and heading to Maui today. Hope you have a good time there and enjoy the vacation.

Studios definitely hold four. 2 and 4 means until will sleep 4, two privately. Kind of straightforward because its all one room (lock off). The two bedroom has 6 and 8. 8 max and six privately, because two have to sleep in the LR and four in the second BR if you max at 8.

I've never been at capacity of a room, BUT in the same vein, no one has ever checked how many there are in a room. I've never used the wristbands even though they give it to me and have never been asked for a wristband or identification that to prove I am staying at the resort. I think the OP might be overthinking it.

***If I ever wanted to have more than limit, which I wouldn't want to, as its not comfortable with so many, I would just go check in as normal and then go to the room. If they actually check the wristbands, easy to go back and get "new ones" that you "lost", problem solved. I highly doubt it will be an issue.

Thank you to everyone that responded, it's very helpful.

I agree with with you, it's probably extremely low risk for enforcement. IMO it's not so much overthinking, rather it's the conflicting messaging of the policy between MVC, II and the front desk person I spoke with. But I am comforted by the additional data points from fellow TUGgers. Also, great point about the wristbands.
