We are headed to Kitty Hawk this upcoming weekend, Outer Banks Beach Club I with 2 preschoolers. Any suggestions?

Stay warm...

Honestly, have a good time. Enjoy not having any traffic to deal with. Take time to walk along the beach and visit a lighthouse. If you have time, go to the aquarium in Manteo and visit the small downtown are there. Drive to Hatteras and to Corolla.

If you are up to it, climb Jockey's Ridge.

You will have fun.

January is not your typical tourist season. Hooray for that! Heck the Wright Bros went there off-season also for the peace and lack of tourists also. Who knows what discoveries you'll make during your off-season trip!

Go buy a kite and fly it on the beach. Go up to Corollo and maybe luck up and see the ponies. Dress warmly, it's going to be COLD, but with proper layers you can look for shells on the beach. shaggy

Maybe you will get lucky weatherwise

We own week 52 at OBBC and almost without fail we have one warm day for outdoors (usually Jockey's Ridge). 76 degrees Tuesday this year.
If you go to the owners meeting Monday morning, be there on time. It lasted a very few minutes.
It is a very different time of year but we use it every year it fits school dates.Might also suggest the outlets at about MP 16. 50% or more off on most everything. Kitty Hawk Kites at about MP 11 has a fun collection of toys in addition to kites that the kids (and most parents) will enjoy.
The Jolly Roger about 2 mi. up the beach road is very kid friendly with good breakfasts.
Seamark grocery is gone now with the best seafood on the beach but some of the small seafood markets are still available with local products.
The marina just before the Bonner bridge to the South is interesting when the fishing boats come in and display their catch. Check to see if the boats are going out in the weather.
Enjoy your time and hope you can give the resort a good review. PM me if you have any other questions. Yours, Jim

I talked to a relative in eastern NC who told me they had one 80 degree day this month and several around 50-60. This time of year is a gamble.

Try Queen Anne's Revenge restaurant in Wanchese for their fabulous Sunday buffet that they only serve in deep off season, January-February.

Check out the museums at the Lost Colony / Fort Raleigh site and Wright Brothers memorial. The Festival Park museum in Manteo is also interesting if open. It has had some unpredictable winter hours lately. Climb Jockeys Ridge, and if they are open, lighthouses.

One thing I forgot to mention, is the stores had huge packages of fireworks for sale. I was there in mid-May 2005 so maybe they had these in preparation for the upcoming Fourth of July. And maybe in Virginia you can buy these year round or in bulk easily also. But out here in dry California I have never seen such a large package for sale for so little. I would've bought all the packages and brought them home if we had been driving. Unfortunately I could not bring them home on the plane. My wife was so happy!
