Kitchen Remodel - Appliance recommendations, please!

We are looking into remodeling our kitchen and are getting new appliances and would appreciate any pros and cons anyone has to offer. We are going to have to go with a "counter-depth" refrigerator. Does anyone have one, and do you lose a noticable amount of space? What about gas versus electric cook-tops? One brand better than the other? Does anyone have experience with Direct Buy? Thanks!

We were limited to 36" wide. The Sub-Zero with two freezer drawers on the bottom builds in very nicely and provides reasonable freezer space.

You'll still need to supplement the refrigerated space, either with a refrigerator in the basement or garage, or if there's room and the budget allows, with a two-drawer undercounter refrigerator installed under an island counter or along the wall.

We bought a countertop depth Kitchenaid in July and absolutley love it. It is a 25cf side by side. It is 72" high and 35-1/2" wide and from the wall to the front is 28". The hinge comes about the edge of the countertop. I really like that it does not stick out so far into the room.

I also bought a gas cooktop.

We are members of Direct Buy and it saved us a fortune in our remodel. We did the entire kitchen, and 2 bathrooms. We felt good about it. We would have bought something such as top of the line of what say Home Depo carries and instead bought top of the line at about Home Depo prices.
Just make sure all measurments are exact and make sure you ask lots of questions. My wife bought the wrong type tub so our contractor ended up having to build a special thing for it to work. Minor problems could have been major.

We like our flat-top stove. There was a long post about the pros and cons of flat-top vs coil a few months ago; you might want to look back for it.

If I had it to do over I would definitely get a bottom-freezer refrigerator. I am not familiar with the type you're mentioning, but if you decide against that particular type, consider bottom-freezer. I am sooooo tired of having to bend down to find what I'm looking for in the refrig part! (And yes, of course I'd have to bend to find the frozen stuff, but I wouldn't be doing tht nearly as often.)

Re dishwasher, I like the ones that have an extra rack on the very top for silverware. That gives you the space on the bottom rack that would normally be taken up by the basket.

We have the dishwasher "drawers". I will never ever go back to the old style. LOVE it. Cost a fortune, but found a return at Lowe's and I guess when it dies I would pay full price. I love it that much.
