Kindle Fire?

My niece got her kindle fire today. She likes it so far. She downloaded her school books to it. It is not as fast as she would like but the size and portability make up for it as far as she is concerned.

Quick review - It is a perfect size for my bringing to work, which was my main concern. I will now leave the Thrive for my husband - which made him happy:)

Heavier than my Kindle 3 - feels very solid. Typing is easy - but I have been using the Thrive for months, so it is not too different there.

Display/picture is BEAUTIFUL. Font size/contrast is adjustable, also line spacing and margins. I have been re-watching the first season of 24 on my PC - I continued last night on the Fire and was very happy with it. Nice to lay back in the recliner with it right in my lap.

So far my ONLY complaint is that my favorite game (Jewels) is not compatable:( I will have to find something new for those slow times at work.

Unless I missed something, Kindle Fire is WIFI ONLY, so unless you're somewhere that has WiFi, it'll be tough to use on the go.

I'll stick with my 3G Kindle then. Hopefully some day they will offer a 3G version because even at a higher price point without a monthly fee that would be awesome and perhaps a fantasy that they will offer that. :ponder:

Got mine. My first impression is that it's heavy (it feels at least twice as heavy as a regular Kindle), a bit smaller than I expected (maybe halfway between the iPhone and an iPad), and it doesn't feel as peppy as the iPhone (the animation of the movement of windows is a bit choppy). My Internet is messing up right now, so I can't check out much. For the price, I think it's going to be nice, though.

....yesterday Bejeweled was the free app of the day - basically the same game, so all is well:)

So far I am really enjoying the Fire!!!!!

I thought Amazon was tracking me again after doing the quick search for your game. Glad you got the freebie. I better not tell my DW. She is already up half the night popping bubbles or something I don't understand.

You must REALLY be enjoying it. 5 exclamations! Wow. If I didn't already have an iPad, I would have ordered a Fire, and like a caveman's discovery, fire might just catch on.

I am keeping my Kindle (now they call it a) keyboard. I like the month or more of battery life, the ability to read outdoors and the $200 in my pocket. Playing games in color is cool, but the iPad does that and sync's with the kindle for those rare times I just need to read in the dark.
