Are any of the properties better suited for family trips? Looking for a pool with slides/etc and less emphasis on gambling. Please advise and thx!

Hi. We stayed at Hilton grand vacations on Las Vegas blvd in April and really enjoyed it. We have two kids ages 8 and 10. We enjoyed the swimming pools and hot tubs. No water slides. No casino on site. It is away from the strip, near circus circus but bus stops right at hotel so it is easy to get to the main areas on the strip. There was a cvs next door for quick pick ups and a grocery store near by that you could take a cab to. We booked via the hotel on line and found it to be a very good value.

I stayed at the one now called "on the boulevard" previously known as "at the strip." No gambling, but no water slides. Nice pool and while I don't know if they still have it, they had a small luau show at the pool on Friday evenings. It is walking distance to a CVS and Circus Circus. I saw lots of kids at the pool.

The only other one I stayed at was Flamingo and I wouldn't recommend that with kids. It does have access to the Flamingo Casino's waterslide, but the 2 bedrooms are locked out in a way that I don't think is good for families with kids. It has one main door, and then 2 separate entrances to the studio and the one bedroom. The rooms aren't exactly connecting, other than they share the main door.

I'll put in a 3rd word for the Boulevard. I organized my wife's family reunion there in July -- about 40-50 people including tons of kids. Everyone had a great time. As mentioned, no slides at the pool, but there are a couple of BBQ areas poolside that made a great reunion venue.

We used to hold the reunions at the Flamingo, and I really enjoyed it there. Until, that is, they turned the main pool into an adults-only "Go" pool, complete with 20-something-style partying. But mainly, it's the fact that there's no longer a cool pool for the kids. Bummer. But the Boulevard was very, very nice.

We had it one year at Karen Ave also. Nice quiet location, with a serviceable pool, but nothing special.

I'd also discourage going to Elara, for many of the same reasons as Flamingo.

This won't answer your question but here are some family/kid-friendly activity resources in Vegas:

http://www.vegas.com/attractions/attractions-for-kids/
and
http://www.lasvegaskids.net/las_vegas_attractions/las_vegas_attractions_landing.htm

This one is more for locals, but still might be good.
http://vegasfamilyevents.com/vegas-kids-activities-calendar/

As a Vegas mom of a 5-year-old I suggest:
- Children's Museum: http://www.discoverykidslv.org/
- Container Park: http://downtowncontainerpark.com/
- Springs Preserve: http://www.springspreserve.org/
- Adventuredome: http://www.adventuredome.com/
- SkyZone: http://www.skyzone.com/LasVegas
- Ethel M Chocolate Factory: https://www.ethelm.com/category/visiting+the+factory/self+guided+viewing+aisle.do

and if it's Winter then Mount Charleston to play in snow: http://www.skilasvegas.com/winter/index.html
and if it's Summer then one of the water parks (like Wet N Wild): http://wetnwildlasvegas.com/

Any of the above is suitable for older kids too. Maybe up to about age 10, and some things (like Adventuredome and Skyzone) are fun for teens and other things (like Springs Preserve and water parks) are good for any age. Personally, I would not do the Mob Museum or Bodies with anyone under 12 or so. I know some parents who have and they thought it was great, but my kid would flip out and have nightmares. Nor would I take young kids to a number off the other things listed on those lists for tourists, like indoor skydiving because of the danger factor.

If the kids like nature I'd take them out to Red Rock Canyon too.

There are lots of things to see and do in Vegas that don't involve gambling :) Enjoy!

Before my "kids" were of age, we would stay at HGVC on the Boulevard / Strip. They enjoyed the pool. Also it is in close proximity to Circus Circus which has a kid friendly area. There are so many other things to do in Vegas besides gambling as others have mentioned. Don't forget about the Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam. I really think those are must sees. Enjoy!

We brought our 2 year old with us to Vegas, and stayed at Elara earlier this month. It's a good central location for the strip activities. We had a rental car and were able to hit up some other cool areas of Vegas, including Red Rock canyon.

Elara itself isn't too kid friendly. Good pool, no casino, and electronic window shades were all pros IMO.

Perfectly said. Totally agree. The game room on the ground floor is also great.

I wouldn't put my young kids at the Elara. The pool is built for adults and closes early. Don't know why anyone would stay at the Karen/Paradise/Convention Center property unless you're going to a convention. I own there but have never stayed there. Small and too far from everything.
