Looking to find a unit in Key West in Janruary around the 18- 24. Hoping to exchange through II, but was wondering if I might be expecting to much at that time of year. In checking for getaways on II I don't see much in availibility in resorts I thought of trying to get. Does anyone have any experience in this part of Florida?

In general I'd say probably not likely unless you have a very good trader. The Galleon website used to have a page where owners advertised weeks they were willing to rent, not sure if they have that any longer.

Or are willing to see if something pops up last minute. Last year I was able to grab two weeks there at the last minute - one in Jan and one in Feb.

Isn't that race week in Key West?

The Hyatts are going to be a little hard to find, if that is what you are hoping for. Also consider expanding your search out to the Lower and Middle Keys (Marathon and Islamorada).

My $0.02 worth...

It's highly unlikley that you'll be able to exchange into anything in Key West in January at this late date, even with a great "trader". There are only a half dozen or so timeshare facilities there in the first place and your date window is only 16 weeks away at this point...

I don't like the place, but you might find a Saturday to Saturday rental at Coconut Mallory in Key West. Check RedWeek, MyResortNetwork, VacationTimeshare Rentals, etc. for rental listings. In my experience, many owners at CM rent out their reserved weeks pretty routinely (all CM weeks owned are "floating" weeks --- there are no "fixed" week ownerships). Don't know if the "house" conducts rentals for owners there, but if so it will obviously be much more expensive to rent from the resort. Good luck.

P.S. I see a "float" 2BR week advertised for rent at Coconut Mallory on MyResortNetwork.com, with a reservation date range that includes your particular week of interest. Price is $1100 (no, it's not my ad and no, I don't know the advertiser and no, I have nothing at all to do with that MRN ad). I'm not advertising, but merely making you aware of having seen something posted for Key West potentially fitting your specified dates of interest. You might even be able to negotiate a partial week rental --- I don't know...

Reqested my trade with Interval International on Thursday. Was able to trade my Royal Haciendas (Playa del Carmen) lock-off for a 2 bedroom, 6 person unit by Saturday morning. Confirmed into Hyatt Beach House Resort.

Congrats, I'd say you got a little bit lucky but could be wrong.

You're not wrong at all; that's a whole lot lucky... :)

The resort itself will be fine, doubt you'll have any complaints with it. The worst thing about it is it's location - right at the entrance to Key West. Ideally you would have liked to have been down in Old Towne, as there's so much more within walking distance. As long as you don't have too much difficulty finding parking the times you do go into town, you should be fine.

Hyatt Beach Resort

"The Hyatt looks to be a nice resort from the II pictures. Has anyone stayed there?"

We traded our Brewster Green Resort Week 16 for the first week in March this year (with II) at the Hyatt Beach Resort. The units are very nice and spacious, and they have a wonderful screened in porch overlooking large palm trees and the pool area which is very pretty at night with the pool lights on. There is a small sandy beach and a little dock where you can sit and take in the view of the water. It is a ways to downtown Key West, but we had a car and it worked out fine. Covered parking on the first floor below the units was nice. I think you'll enjoy the place.
I actually preferred the location of the Hyatt Windward Pointe though. Beautiful view of the water, and there is nice little restaurant right on the beach there. We also walked by The Banyan Resort which is just steps away from all the action, but on a nice quiet street.
We signed up for the sunset cruise with "Danger" and recommend it highly. There were 2 very personable crew members and the boat only takes 10 people. We stopped awhile for snorkeling, and then went kayaking around the mangroves. Beer or wine, fresh cut fruit, and munchies were included.
