Kenmore Dishwasher flooded our Kitchen

We have a built-in Kenmore Dishwasher underneath our kitchen countertop adjacent to a double-sink.

Today, my wife was running the dishwasher. She returned to the kitchen during the drying cycle and found the kitchen floor flooded.

Now, I admit that I'm mechanically challenged.

Need suggestions on what to troubleshoot.

Is your Kenmore one that 'you never have to rinse or scrape a dish again' type? I have one of those and my almost 2 yo dishwasher was not emptying properly, so called a reputable repairman. You do have to scrape your dishes!!! The scum builds up in the filtering system in the bottom of the dw and slows the water down. And I have been faithful in cleaning that filter out. But I now scrape and rinse before doing dishes. Hope this helps.

It could be something as simple as a knife blade between the door gaskets, or a clogged filter, backed-up or slow running drain, or cracked shaft seal. I'd run it again with the panel below the door removed (down by the toe-kick) and some towels very handy. Check the filter first, run the disposer to be sure the back-up isn't down stream from the dishwasher.

You shouldn't have to run a full cycle, but watch under the D/W for water especially as you change fill- to wash-to drain- to rinse-to drain again.

Good luck. Ours has leaked occasionally and not done the hardwood floors any good.
