Their lease is expiring - I hope they don't close. I just bought 2 lbs. of beans there for my SIL for Christmas.

(I know a certain coffee farmer will probably drop the hammer on this thread.) :ROFLMAO:

I hope it gets worked out and it remains as it is. We always enjoy a stop there. Especially when we are with guests. 🤙🏻

The coconut caramel crunch is my favorite, but I am glad the coffee is smooth and not crunchy.

Thanks for sharing the article. We always stop by when we are on Kauai and enjoy the experience. Hopefully they can come to an agreement with the new land owners and stay in business. That would certainly be a good outcome for the workers and visitors.

Thanks Denise.

We went there a couple of times between 2000 and 2010. I felt the coffee was mediocre, at best, and certainly not worth the prices they were charging.

A few years we visited again, and I was surprised at the improvement in quality under the new ownership.

This is happening on a smaller scale on the Big Island -- at least in the Kona Coffee Belt. The Ka'u Coffee region doesn't have as many leaseholds. (They also have a surplus -- so there are deals to be had no Ka'u coffee.)

One of the biggest operators in Kona is losing their lease. All the buildings, the equipment, anything that's bolted to a building or to the ground is now owned by the land trusts who own most of Hawaii.

This is why I own the dirt. I'm not going to have a land-trust attorney in a suit knock on my door in 10 years and tell me "thanks for fixing the farm. Now leave."
