Anybody been to the resort lately? Would be interested in an update/pixs regarding all the rain they got recently. How many rooms did they have to close and when will they be back to normal????

We are visiting in June.

Thanks,
edo

A little over a week ago, a Los Angeles Times article reported 25 Hotel rooms closed and I believe it also said the small parking lot next to Hotel part was damaged. (The lot generally for Kauai resident beach access).

Let me know what you find when you get there. We are going in September (that should give them plenty of time for repairs)

Re: Kauai Beach Club damage pictures March/2006

I just called the resort, they said the pool is back to normal.. and the resort is pretty much 100%. The bay is open and mostly blue.

OMG. That looks really bad. It looks like it sustained more damage than the tsunami caused to the Marriott in Phuket.

We stayed at KBC (MKW) after the 2nd flooding on 3/25 (Sat night I think).
The pool was cleaned and re-opened by Monday night and in great shape by Tuesday.
They took a lot more time reopening Kalapaki beach after the 2nd flood. It didn't reopen until Thurs or Fri. KuKui's reopened on Monday night. The staff did great work with all the problems and continuing rain.

After the 1st flooding, the pool and beach were back to normal in a day or 2.

When we checked in Sunday (3/26) they were working on the problem (i.e. the gully just above the valet parking just to the left of the entrance). If you look over the small bridge there is large gully (full of boulders) going toward the back parking lot. They said that had been the problem and they "hopefully" had fixed it - it was a much different water flow than the parking lot problem last year ;-(.

The access road changed daily while we were there as they working on the "old" parking lot problem i.e. flow basically was in from Rice st, thru the old parking lot to the checkin /bellstand then either to parking in the upper lot and then exit via the golf course/airport access road.

any damage at Duke's

Was there any damage down a couple hundred yards at Duke's restaurant? The whole bottom ground level there is very vulnerable, from what I remember. jme

Re: Dukes?

No damage at Dukes that we saw. We ate downstairs at the bar. Everything got pretty much back to normal during the week we were there except that it mostly rained until we left on 3/31. Of course, the fron tof the hotel was a mess with all the reconstruction but that was expected. Once the beach was refinished (they had various machines smoothing out sand and filling in run-off damage), we didn't see any further damage. The Ha'upu tower had the 25 rooms that were damaged (hotel only) and need to be renovated. The lower parking lot was still closed on 4/12.
