She (the TV host) definitely does NOT do her homework......I think she must stop at a gas station just out of town and asks someone there! If these are the places she says are THE BEST, she's slightly confused and misguided. I don't get it.
They also highlighted Hudson's Seafood Restaurant on that show, and Hudson's, to me, is (1) way out of the way, (2) mediocre (at best) and has inconsistent food and service, and (3) an old place that changed ownership many times, but remains mired in it's old (false) reputation of being THE place for seafood....when there were only maybe two places, 2 decades ago, it WAS, but now it's not worth the gas to drive there. Last time we ate there,

It's a fun show to watch (and I do on occations) but I am sure what happens is that the producer calls the Chamber of Commerice or something and gets some recommendatins in return for restaurants paying their way down. I've watched for cities I know and they are NOT the places you would send a friend. Never BAD but not the real finds. Do you want ALL the Food Network knowing about Charlie's L'Etoile Verte?

Thanks for the recommendations Marty. We're going again in May and I'm going to refer back to this thread when we get there.

I did get to the Sea Shack that Rachel mentioned on her show. We liked it enough to go again. What do you think of it? Also, we thought the restaurants mentioned on the Charleston, SC (HominyGrill & Jestine's Kitchen) and Savannah, GA (Mrs.Wilkes Dining room) episodes were good. So she hits them good sometimes.

I have successfully used her tactics when in a strange town. In Sister's OR I was in a quilt shop (of course ;)) and asked a young salesgirl where she'd suggest as a restaurant for lunch. Because of her age I then asked her why she liked that one. Thinking she would say "because of the hamburgers and fries" I was surprised when she said it was noted locally for it's fish. It turned out great. Then when we were passing through Marietta OH I asked at the local quilt shop (quilter's like good food ;)) for a nice restaurant. Once again, it was a winner.

Again, thanks for all the restaurant tidbits. You've been going to the island for so many years it sounds like you've scoped out all the good places.

Also, I enjoyed reading of how you treated your daughter and her friends to the crab and the french manicures. Mine just flew in to Palm Beach today and I'm looking forward to treating her to vacation memories. Also her brother who comes in Wed. night. That's one of the main reasons we buy these timeshares isn't it? To create memories for our children?

Thanks for the update.
We have been away for a year and a half.
Two questions which I can think of:
1) Does Barony have inroom internet access yet?
2) Do they have DVD players?
:)

Not sure about internet access, but I would very much assume so. I haven't even looked!!! I use the internet daily, but not on vacation. I do have withdrawals, but I try to stay away. And YES, they most definitely do have DVD players, and that's for sure. We watched many movies just last week. Now if they only had surround sound! (I'm considering taking my own---what do you think would happen if I did????) jme :D
