We had some saved points to burn, so I thought I’d take a look at Washington DC to go see the cherry blossoms. Needless to say I was surprised to see 6 nights in a standard 1 bedroom available at The District.

This will be our first time seeing what the By Hilton Club product is like.

I will be waiting for your YouTube video. Happy New Year.

If it's the District in the Emabassy Suites, we liked that property a lot (except for parking fee). The rooms are nicely furnished, and the ES breakfast and happy hour was included.

We were there in April, and just missed peak cherry blossoms. We took the Amtrak down, and either walked or used Uber/Lyft. We enjoyed it there.

In major cities I rarely rent a car. We plan to take their subway, Uber, taxi or subway.

We might make use of the breakfast, although neither of us are thrilled with buffets

Wise to not bother with the car. Having lived in DC, Metro and taxis will take you almost anywhere you want to go (though the Udvar-Hazy branch of the Air and Space Museum is an exception 😁). You can even join Lime or Capital Bikeshare and bike around, it’s a pretty bike-friendly city. It can be pretty chilly that time of year! And, though it’s hard to beat being among all the memorials, a much less crowded area with plenty of of cherry blossoms to stroll under is Hains Point, so if the Tidal Basin is really crowded, go there.

The problem with cherry blossoms in DC is they are not very predictable (which doesn't keep officials from making predictions). Peak season can very by a few weeks, depending on how warm/cold it has been, whether there's a cold snap in the middle of spring. T-storms can knock blossoms off trees.

Some years, the cherry blossoms have come and gone before the Cherry Blossom Festival even begins.

True. That’s why I didn’t exactly follow the predictions, but went with what worked best for us.

Silver line from Foggy Bottom to Reston Town Center, 5 minute walk to Reston Town Center Metro Bay L to catch the route 952 bus to Dulles Airport, switch to the route 983 bus to the Air and Space Museum and you're there! Total walking time 17 minutes, which isn't bad.

We tend to stick with things with fixed schedules for planning purposes. For us, the Cherry Blossom Kite Festival is what we shoot for this time of year at The District. We've been pretty lucky with being close to peak bloom for the last few years and the kite festival is impressive. This year it's March 28th.
