Hi all - we just returned from our week at Canyon Villas. Wow - hot weather, good meals and some so-so golf. Didn't get the unit location we wanted - just didn't want to wait any longer so took a top floor in 2900 building. Didn't attend any owner presentations and glad they weren't pushy. It was 102 degrees on Saturday when we arrived and thankfully the week got progressively cooler. Actually had rain during our front 9 at Wekopa on Thursday - first time in 7 trips to Phoenix that we encountered rain.

Hung out at the JW pool on Friday - wow what a beautiful complex.

If anyone has any questions let me know.

Carol

Tell us a little about how you got your reservation (exchange? DC?, how far in advanced booked, etc).

Was this your first Marriott visit? If not, how does the 'wow' factor compare to other resorts you've visited? Any very nice things done?

Hi - definitely not the first Marriott experience We own at CV so even though we've enrolled in DC points we just booked our week about a year in advance It was only the 2nd time I'd been to CV since purchasing in 2008 . Had been to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area a number of times and just love the desert And love to golf - so that was part of the decision to purchase there. The idea was that we would use our week there often. Scottsdale has a really nice mix of shopping and restaurants and the weather is virtually guaranteed.

Then we purchased at Lakeshore Reserve which is really different with the mix of buildings and town houses. I like the properties with the JW Marriott hotels nearby because it gives you some additional dining options and spa facilities if you want. Really love it there and will likely use it more often than CV. Being from the Toronto area there are more flight options to Orlando. Of all the MVCI properties we've stayed at, LR has the wow factor.

Hi Carol,

We also were at Canyon Villas last week, and we too had a great time. We were lucky enough to get the location we requested -- a third floor villa in Bldg 2400, facing the golf course. We really liked the unit. I thought the pool was very crowded on Saturday and Sunday (when it was blazing hot), but was not so bad the rest of the week. I also hung out at the JW pools on Friday afternoon. While I really like the pool at Canyon Villas, I think the pools at the JW are great on a relatively quiet afternoon (as it was on Friday). On Thursday, we hiked at the Hassayampa River Preserve (near Wickenburg), and really loved it. It rained hard on our drive out there, and the temperature briefly dropped to 55 degrees. But by the time we got there, the sun had come out and it was about 70 -- perfect hiking weather.

It was a fun, relaxing week. I'd also be happy to answer any questions.

Dennis

Hi Dennis - we arrived that blazing hot Saturday afternoon and you're right, the pool was jammed. We sat out by the pool restaurant waiting for our room assignment and it was pretty toasty! Next time I think we'll request a golf course view. I requested top floor in 2700 or 2800 and even if we had waited until 4 or later, the best we would have received was 2nd floor.

We drove up to Sedona on tuesday and it was a beautiful clear day to see the red rocks. We were playing golf at Wekopa when that rain blew through Thursday morning but it was warm and suny by the back nine.

We were surprised the JW pool wasnt crowded on Friday when we were there but it was just gorgeous surroundings over there - and the lazy river has a great current!

Restaurant Recommendations?

Sounds like you had a great trip! We will be there the first week in June and have never stayed at MCV before. We will have a car and 3 hungry teenagers so we would appreciate any restaurant recommendations in Scottsdale or Phoenix for dinners or fun lunches. TIA.

The Concierge at MCV highly recommended Cowboy Ciao in Old Town Scottsdale so we tried their signature Stetson Salad and was not disappointed. Cave Creek has many bbq and mexican restaurants and of course In-N-Out.
